Kenneth Kimera was the hero as Vipers secured a 1-0 victory over Wakiso Giants in a Uganda Premier League clash at St. Mary’s Stadium on Friday.

The first half was largely uneventful, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Wakiso Giants’ physical approach disrupted Vipers’ rhythm, denying them space in midfield.

The breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Kimera capitalized on a brilliant delivery from Frank Katongole, beating Wakiso Giants’ high defensive line to find the back of the net.

The visitors pushed for an equalizer through Hudson Mbalire, Rahmat Senfuka, and Hassan Ssenyonjo, but none managed to convert their chances.

Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza was outstanding, making several crucial saves to preserve his team’s lead.

The win extends Vipers’ lead at the top of the table to five points, with 49 points, while Wakiso Giants remain in 14th place with 14 points.

Kitara was held to a 1-1 draw by Mbarara City in a Uganda Premier League encounter at Royals Park, Butema, on Friday.

The hosts had an early opportunity to take the lead in the 10th minute when Patrick Kaddu was set up by Frank Tumwesigye, but his weak effort failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

Kitara continued to press, with Fred Amaku’s volley narrowly missing the target. Mbarara City’s defence looked shaky under pressure.

After the break, Kitara intensified their attacking play, forcing Mbarara City to defend deep.

Their efforts paid off in the 46th minute when the referee awarded them a penalty after Jude Ssemugabi was fouled inside the box.

Kaddu made no mistake from the spot, sending goalkeeper Abdul Kimera the wrong way to give Kitara the lead.

However, Mbarara City responded in the 77th minute when Henry Kitegenyi converted a penalty with a powerful strike, levelling the score.

From that point, Mbarara City looked the stronger side but lacked sharpness in the final third to find a winning goal.

Following the draw, Kitara remains in sixth place with 29 points, while Mbarara City sits in 13th place with 22 points from 20 matches.

In March 2024, Wigan Athletic’s Tobby Peter Sibbick earned his first call-up to the Uganda National Team. At the time, the Cranes were preparing for two international friendlies against Ghana and Comoros.

The defender went on to make his international debut during the two games that were played at Stade Grande Marrakech in Morocco.

Sibbik was born to a Ugandan mother and an English father and raised in West London. He came through the youth system with AFC Wimbledon, signing his first professional contract with the Dons back in August 2016.

Having made his senior bow against Peterborough United in April 2017, Sibbick’s real first-team breakthrough came in the 2018/19 Sky Bet League One season, where he made 31 appearances across all competitions.

Showcasing his versatility and clear quality, Sibbick’s eye-catching form earned him a move to the division above with Barnsley in the summer of 2019 where he made 18 Championship appearances in the first half of the 2019/20 campaign before his first stint (loan) with Hearts.

Despite a promising start at Heart, his time at Tynecastle was cut short by injury, illness, and a curtailed season due to Covid-19.

After a loan stint at Belgian side Oostende, and a return to Barnsley’s first team, Sibbick re-joined the Scottish Premiership side in January 2022 on a permanent transfer.

He soon established his place in the starting line-up and immortalised himself at Tynecastle in the 2022/23 campaign.

He made 41 appearances during his first full season in Scotland, playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League and helping Hearts finish fourth.

The 2023/24 season saw Sibbick feature 29 times and make his international debut for Uganda.

On Monday, March 10 Uganda Cranes’ head coach named the squad for the upcoming Fifa World Cup Qualifiers against Mozambique and Guinea. Sabbik was among the defenders named in the squad.
