Busoga United steered four points clear of the relegation zone following a 2-1 win over Express Football Club at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The Jinja-based side scored two first-half goals in the opening ten minutes of the game courtesy of Emmanuel Ajo who was later named Man Of The Match.

Ajo’s brace takes his season tally to seven league goals so far.

Isaac Wagoina halved Express deficit five minutes after the break but the Red Eagles could not add to their tally as Busoga United held on for maximum points.

Busoga United are 13th on the log with 25 points collected from 26 games. They are four points clear of UPDF in the 14th position on the table but have played a game more.

Next up for Busoga are three tough fixtures against title contenders Kitara whom they visit on Saturday, May 11 in Masindi before hosting Vipers and BUL at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru on Tuesday, May 14 and Saturday, May 18 respectively.

NEC Football Club secured a 2-0 victory against BUL Football Club in the Uganda Cup semifinal encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

Joseph Dhata and Cromwell Rwothomio were on target as the hosts claimed bragging rights in their backyard.

Dhata fired the hosts in the sixth minute ahead with a simple tap from close range after Emmanuel Obua failed to clear his line.

Twenty minutes later, Rwothomio doubled the lead after he guided the ball into the back of the net. Tom Ikara fumbled with Shamir Kimwero’s long-range before Cromwell converted in the box.

The first leg of the tie ended 1-1 at FUFA Technical Center Njeru before NEC sealed the victory at home.

BUL came into the game having beaten Vipers 1-0 to ascend to the Uganda Premier League table.

BUL’s dream to clinch a double was thus brought to an end after being knocked out of the cup tournament.

The tournament will continue with a clash between Kitara and Pajule Lions on Sunday.

A Uganda Cup Finals spot is at stake as NEC Football Club hosts BUL Football Club at the MTN Omondi Stadium this after in the return leg of the semifinal.

Following their 1-1 draw in the first leg at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru last weekend, it is a high-stakes showdown in Lugogo as the tie is still wide open.

Shariph Kimbowa was on the target twice as Wakiso Giants secured a 2-0 victory against Gaddafi in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Thursday.

The victory returned Wakiso Giants to winning ways after losing twice on the bounce.

Maximum points extended the Purple Sharks eight points away from the relegation zone above Busoga United.

Kenneth Kimera fired the hosts ahead in the third minute after guiding home Kimbowa’s delivery.

Before the end of the first half, Kimbowa was quick to tap home a loose ball after Gaddafi’s custodian fumbled with Samson Kigozi’s powerful effort.

Kimbowa sealed the emphatic victory with a late strike getting to an end of the hosts’ counterattack.

The victory sends Wakiso Giants to 29 points in the 12th position while Gaddafi lies 15th with 19 points.

UPDF edged Bright Stars 1-0 in a Uganda Premier League encounter in Bombo on Thursday evening.

Captain fantastic Benard Muwanga scored the only goal as UPDF secured maximum points on the day.

The victory was timely since it lifted the Army side’s hopes of squeezing out of the relegation zone.

The hosts kicked off with intent seeking an early goal but Bright Stars’ backline responded to the threat.

UPDF couldn’t convert any of the chances created and the first half ended 0-0.

In the 50th minute, Jibril Badru Nsimbe was tripped in the box and UPDF were awarded a penalty.

Muwanga stepped up to the occasion and superbly converted from the 12-yard mark.

Bright Stars came close twice through Noordin Bunjo and Nelson Senkatuka but Richard Anyama’s big gloves kept UPDF in the game.

UPDF lie 14th on the log with 21 points while Bright Stars are 10th with 30 points in 24 games.

KCCA secured a 2-0 victory against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Namboole on Wednesday, March 1, 2024.

Usama Arafat’s brace helped the Kasasiro Boys earn maximum points on the emotional return to Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The sweet victory equally meant that KCCA had sealed a rare double beating SC Villa home and away.

The well-attended match saw both sides have a fair share of possession however the better chances of the game were created by the hosts.

KCCA seek to return to winning ways in the Uganda Premier League as they take on SC Villa in the Kampala Derby.

The highly anticipated game will be played under the floodlights at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole as one of the test events for the venue to host international matches.

Ahead of the game, Villa goalkeeper Braddy Wokorach has called upon the fans to turn up in high numbers so as to rally behind the boys.

“I call upon our fans to turn up in large numbers so that they rally behind the boys,” Wokorach rallied.

“We know what this game means this season. We have prepared well and now only await action so as to fight for the badge. The target is winning the game and I am confident we shall achieve it,” he added.

In the previous game, Villa ended their three-game winless run with a narrow 1-0 victory against Gaddafi thanks to Patrick Jonah Kakande’s finish.

Villa have always created chances in every game they play but the challenge always arises when it comes to converting the continuous deliveries.

Against KCCA, Villa will have to carry their scoring boots if they are to pick anything positive from the game.

Before the 2-2 stalemate against Bright Stars, KCCA had registered six consecutive victories and they will seek to return to winning ways as they take on their rivals.
