Uganda Premier League – Fixtures

BUL will take on Vipers in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

The two sides will be matching up in a highly anticipated encounter with a title sight as the league takes a final bend.

The winner of the clash will automatically take the top spot of the log since Kitara was held by Mbarara City in a one-all in Masindi.

Vipers come into this game eyeing revenge after losing the first leg 3-2 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Both sides did not pick a victory in their previous games. BUL fell to NEC in a 1-0 loss while Vipers were held by Maroons in a one-all draw.

BUL assistant coach James Maganda revealed that they have prepared well and will try to go and put up a fight in a game they expect a challenge.

“We have prepared for the game. I know it will be a tough challenge for us but we hope to put up a required in the game,” he added.

“The games are coming in so fast but we have nothing to do about it. We have briefed the boys about what lies ahead and to reach the top you have to manoeuvre through challenges,” he added.

In the last five games between the two sides, Vipers has won twice, BUL has won once and they have shared spoils on two occasions.

Mbrara City hold Kitara in a one-all draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Tuesday.

Mbarara restored parity late denying the Royals a chance to widens the gap at the top to four points.

Kitara came into the game seeking their maiden victory against rivals Mbarara City however the plan didn’t go as scripted.

Denis Omedi fired the hosts ahead early in the ninth minute with a shot inside the area.

The early goal gave Kitara morale as they pegged Mbarara City on the back foot but failed to double their lead.

With six minutes on the clock, Seiri Arigumaho levelled matters with a fine touch guiding Joseph Akadwanaho’s delivery into the back of the net.

The point leaves Kitara on top of the log 48 points, two clear of BUL and Vipers who play on Wednesday, May 1, 2023.

The Ankole Lions lie 11th on the log with 30 points, 11 safe from the relegation zone.

Uganda Premier League | Fixtures

Kitara will be facing Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Masindi Municipality Stadium on Tuesday.

As the league hits a final bend, Kitara have no room for error since anything that is not a win halts their title chase.

In the pre-match conference, Kitara captain Maxwell Owachgiu expressed readiness and revealed that as a team they are ready to fight for maximum points.

“We are ready for the game against Mbarara City. It’s a derby and we have never won them so we have to work hard,” he stated.

“We held a goalless draw in Kakyeka now they come to Masindi we know it will be a tough game but we have planned for the game and we are ready,” he added.

“It’s been a challenging month with mixed results however we hope to end it on a positive note.”

Head to Head

The two sides played to a goalless draw in a first leg though Mbarara City registered a victory the last time they visited Kitara.

In the last five league games, Kitara has picked two victories, two losses and a draw while Mbarara City has secured one victory, two draws and two losses.

Uganda Cranes attacking midfielder Travis Mutyaba will be playing in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup final.

This is after his side Zamalek secured a 3-0 victory against Dream FC in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal encounter.

Hamza Mathlouthi, Samson Akinyoola and Mostafa Shalaby were on target as Zamalek secured a well-deserved victory.

Mutyaba was an unused substitute on the day having taken part in the first-leg encounter.

As he still gets used to life on the Egyptian side, Mutyaba will be the second Ugandan to play in the CAF Confederation Cup final after Khalid Aucho achieved the mark last year.

Zamalek will await the official communication from CAF on whom they are likely to face in the final since USM Alger hardly honoured the fixture against RS Berkane.

Kampala Queens head coach Charles Ayiekoh Lukula was over the moon after his side put an end to their recent poor run.

Kampala Queens found themselves in a worrying state after going four games without a victory but registering four draws on a bounce.

The Queens of Soccer secured a 3-1 victory against Lady Doves in a FUFA Women Super League encounter played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

In the post-match interview, Lukula revealed that putting aside pressure saw them return to winning ways and they will stick to the strategy in the remaining games.

“I am so happy that we registered maximum points. The truth is that we had gone four games without a victory and it was not looking good at all,” he stated.

“However the difference was putting the pressure of defending the title aside. I asked the girls to give me to give me the victory and they did so,” he added.

“The most jovial part about it is that we registered the victory but after playing sweet football, I hope we stick to the strategy.”

The victory leaves Kampala Queens second on the log with 30 points behind log leaders Kawempe Muslim who have played a game more.

Next on the menu, Kampala Queens will face She Maroons at Prison Grounds in Luzira on Sunday, May 12 before they take on Kawempe Muslim on Sunday, May 19.

NEC held BUL in a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Cup Semifinal encounter played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Sunday.

Jerome Kirya fired the host ahead in the 17th minute with a long-range effort beating Benjamin Ochan who was between the posts for NEC. It was a world-class strike that beat the custodian before finding the top corner.

The hosts held onto the lead until the halftime break as the score read 1-0.

Going into the second stanza, the visitors upped their game resorting to using the flanks and crossing continuous balls in the area.

Ten minutes after the break, Joseph Dhata restored parity as he guided the ball into the back of the net after being set up by Cromwell Rwothomio.

The result leaves the tie opened as the two sides have to match up in the second leg at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

The other semifinal saw Kitara beat Pajule Lions 3-1 in the first meeting in Masindi on Saturday.

Fufa Big League | Results 

Blacks Power Football Club secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Police Football Club in a Fufa Big League encounter at the Aki Bua Stadium, Lira on Sunday.

The log leader once dropped points on the road after failing to beat Blacks Power’s well-organised backline.

Otim Dante’s first-half strike was enough to award the hosts maximum points in front of the loyal fans.

The victory lifts Blacks Power to sixth place with 37 points in 23 games played thus far.

Even after the loss, Police are still on top of the log with 44 points from 22 games.

Other Matches

At the Greenlight Stadium in Arua, Lugazi fell to Onduparaka in a 1-0 narrow loss.

In the 40th minute, Bernard Ndifuna scored Onduparaka’s lonely strike as they registered maximum points.

It was a painful defeat as Lugazi failed to close the gap on the Police as the are only four points short of the league leaders.

Kitara Football Club secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory against Pajule Lions in the Uganda Cup semifinal encounter at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

Solomon Okwalinga, Denis Omedi and Frank Tumwesigye scored Kitara’s goals while Martin Wokorach pulled one back for the visitors.

The victory drags Kitara’s one foot in the final as they continue to chase a prestigious double.

Okwalinga fired the hosts ahead with an easy tap-in after Pajule custodian fumbled with Living Kabon’s initial effort.

The hosts continued to exert pressure on the visitors’ backline who looked organised in the opening minutes of the game.

Omedi doubled Kitara’s lead with a strong header that squeezed through the custodian’s palms into the back of the net.

Wokorach pulled one back with a long-range effort that caught Kitara’s custodian by surprise.

However, in the final minutes of the game, Tumwesigye placed the ball at the far post to seal Kitara’s sweet victory in front of a jovial crowd.

The two sides will meet after a week to decide who will take over one of the slots in the upcoming Uganda Cup final.

Uganda Premier League | Results

Busoga United secured a 2-1 victory against Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier League at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Friday.

The victory guided Busoga United out of the relegation zone and kept their chances of survival alive.

Emmanuel Ajo and Basham Mugwa scored Busoga United’s goals while youngster Kenneth Kimora netted Wakiso Giants’ lonely strike.

The hosts took the lead through Ajo in the 16th minute before Kimera levelled matters three minutes later.

It was an end-to-end first stanza that ended 1-1 making the second half even more interesting.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Mugwa restored Busoga’s lead as the visitors’ backline looked on.

The victory sends Busoga United to the 13th on 21 points, two clear of the red zone.

Wakiso Giants lie 12th on the log with 26 points after 24 games.

Elsewhere, Mbarara City and UPDF fired blanks leaving the Army side stuck in the 15th position with 18 points while Mbarara City are 11th on 29 points.

Uganda Martyrs High School secured a 2-1 victory against UCU Lady Cardinals in the FUFA Women Super League in Mukono.

The Cardinals suffered a setback in their fight to stay afloat in the top tier with a third loss in a row.

Uganda Martyrs captain Latifah Nakasi fired the visitors in the 34th minute ahead with a delivery from Brenda Munyana.

Eight minutes into the second stanza, Nakasi doubled Uganda Martyrs with a thrilling finish from close range.

Lady Cardinals pulled one back through Jovia Nakagolo but it was not enough to salvage anything positive from the game.

Lady Cardinals gaffer Francis Oketayot blamed the loss on not burying away their chances and revealed that the remaining two games will be played as finals.

“As a team, we had a great chance of winning the game but failed to utilise our chances,” Oketayot stated.

“We are doing all it takes to see that we put things right. We shall continue preparing for the remaining games so that we collect maximum points,” he added.

Next on the menu, the Lady Cardinals will play Rines SS and Asubo Gafford in the remaining two league games.
