Ssaza Ssingo has appointed Edward Golola as the new head coach ahead of the forthcoming 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup.
The Two time Buganda Masaza Cup winners Ssingo have taken on experienced Golola as Simon Ddunga’s replacement who recently joined Ssaza Buddu.
Golola’s technical bench has been boosted by Pius Ngabo and Frank Kimezze who will assume the assistant coach roles.
Reagan Lule will also join the technical setup as the goalkeeping coach.
Ssingo will be seeking for the third title having won their previous two in 2015 and 2018.
In 2013, Golola was Mawokota’s head coach as they beat Singo 1-0 in the Masaza Cup final played at Nakivubo Stadium.
FUFA Big League side Lugazi FC agreed with experienced gaffer Richard Makumbi to part ways.
Makumbi was relieved from his duties after spending only five months in charge of the club.
The development was confirmed in a statement reduced by the club via its social media platforms.
“Lugazi FC announces that head coach Richard Makumbi has left his role at the club by mutual agreement,” the statement partly reads.
“The decision (to relieve the gaffer) comes after a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance and future direction,” the club noted.
“Makumbi leaves with our sincere thanks for the tireless efforts as head coach and our very best wishes for the future.”
The gaffer replaced William Kyeswa who was cited to be indisciplined on several occasions.
Coach Gerald Efit will handle the club on an interim basis until the club confirms Makumbi’s replacement.
Kigozi lies third on the log with 37 points levelled with Kataka who have a superior goal difference.
Uganda Premier League | Results
David Obua’s post era kicked off with a 2-0 victory as URA beat NEC in the Uganda Premier League encounter played at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Wakisha.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored a brace as the Tax Collectors secured a victory to end the poor run of three straight losses.
Ahimbisibwe placed URA in the lead in the seventh minute with a powerful effort from a tight angle. The hunter got his name on the scoresheet after his return from suspension.
At half an hour mark, the Tax Collectors were awarded a free kick in a great area after Joseph Semujju was fouled but the resultant effort yielded nothing.
At the start of the second stanza, NEC made a double change introducing Ramos Asiimwe and Ibrahim Thembo for Ibrahim Kiyemba and Gadaffi Wahab.
Ahimbisibwe doubled URA’s lead two minutes after the break to keep the hosts in a comfortable driving seat.
In the 70th minute, Vianne Ssekajjugo replaced Ssemujju as the Tax Collectors introduced fresh legs in the final third.
The victory lifts the Tax Collectors to the eighth position with 34 points while NEC are fifth 40 points in 24 games.
NEC will return to action on Wednesday April 24 as they take on BUL while URA take on Busoga United on Wednesday, May 1.
Kitara ejected defending champions Vipers from the Uganda Cup after a 5-4 penalty victory in the quarterfinal encounter played at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
Kitara head coach Brian Senyondo thanked his trooped who hardly lost hope and fought from a goal down twice to win it late.
“We did not lose hope rather we kept fighting till the last minute,” Senyondo expressed his gratitude after the final minute.
“We pushed the game to the penalties which were a bit nervy. Good enough we scored all our five and they missed one and we are into the semi-finals and we can’t be happier than this,” he added.
Vipers were the better side in normal time with Allan Okello pulling the strings and giving a lot of trouble to Kitara’s backline.
Senyondo asserts that his front line was not sharp enough as they created less getting both goals from the 12-yard mark.
“We had some lapses and we were not very clinical and the combination play in the final third was not right that is why you saw that we scored both goals from the penalty spot.”
“In the second half, we tried to organise more on the interplays in the final third and luckily we bounced back in the game. We kept our heads high and got a reward. This is the beauty of the game no one was the game to end like this but today I am happy,” he concluded.
The two sides will renew their rivalry in the league encounter that is slated for Friday, April 19 in a highly anticipated duel.
Kitara edged Vipers 5-4 on penalties in the Uganda Cup encounter that was played in the Uganda Cup at Masindi Stadium on Sunday.
It was an end-to-end game that gave the perfect feel of two quality sides trying to fight for a semifinal slot in the prestigious cup.
The crowd had a game on their hands as centre referee Ali Sabila pointed at the spot on three different occasions.
Sabila awarded the hosts two penalties while the visitors got one and all were converted to stretch the game to spot kicks.
After a goalless draw, Yunus Sentamu fired the visitors ahead in the 57th minute thanks to Allan Okello’s delivery.
Ten minutes later, Kitara levelled matters through Paul Mucureezi who converted from the 12-yard mark. This was after Sabila judged Rogers Torach to have tripped Jude Ssemugabi in the dangerous area.
In the extra time, Vipers regained the lead through Bright Anukani who converted from the spot shortly after Okello was fouled in the area.
But eight minutes to fulltime, Kitara was awarded yet another penalty that was calmly converted by Mucureezi sending the game in spot kicks.
For Vipers, Anukani, Torach, Patrick Mbowa and Hillary Mukundane successfully converted their penalties while Karim Watambala missed.
For Kitara, Living Kabon, Dudu Ramathan, Pady Muhumuza, Denis Omedi and Mucureezi all converted to send Kitara to the semi-finals.
Kitara completed the semifinal puzzle that already has NEC, Pajule Lions and BUL.
Uganda Cup | Fixture
Uganda Cup holders Vipers will be away from home to Kitara in the Uganda Cup at Masindi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
Each side will be badly seeking for supremacy since Kitara has recently emerged to be such a big force.
The Royals sit on top of the log so they believe winning a double this season is something achievable.
Kitara head coach Brian Ssenyondo anticipates a tough duel but he added to become the best then they ought to beat the best.
“If you want to become the best, you have to beat the best,” Ssenyondo stated.
“Tough game against the defending champions but we need to bounce back after dropping five points in the last two league games,” he added.
“It will not be easy for us but I think we shall go to Masindi and pick the result we want.”
Kitara will miss the services of goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima, Brian Aheebwa, Arthur Kiggundu and George Ssenkaaba due to injuries.
Vipers will welcome back Ashraf Mandela back to the fold after missing Vipers’ duel due to accumulation of bookings.
In the last three meetings between the two sides, Vipers has has come out victorious.

Pajule Lions 1-0 Pakwach Young Stars
BUL secured a 6-5 penalty shootout victory against KCCA in the Uganda Cup at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.
Experienced forward Alex Kitata fired the hosts ahead with an electric strike in the forst ten minutes of the game.
Five minutes later, Ettiene Katenga leveled matters with yet another thrilling finish breathing like into the visitors crowd.
Both sides came close several times but failed to convert the chances infront and close to the goalline. The game was sent to extra time which equally didn’t yield match.
After 30 minutes of extra time, both sides were sent into penalty kicks.
Ibrahim Kazindula, Ibrahim Mugulusi, Joel Mutakubwa, Ronald Otti, Walter Ochora and Pascal Ngobi scored for BUL, while Joram Kiirya guided his guided his effort above the frame.
Musitafa Mujuzi, Musitafa Kizza, Joel Sserunjogi, Filbert Obenchan, Emmanuel Loki scored, while Herbert Achai and Peter Magambo missed their attempts.
Elsewhere, Pajule Lions secured a 1-0 victory against Pakwach Young Stars in the other quarterfinal tie.
USSSA Kampala Regional Qualifiers – Final
Kibuli SS managed to defend their Kampala Regional crown after edging Kawempe Muslim in the boy’s football final.
In the game played at Kibuli lower ground, the USSSA Kampala Regional finals got a huge attendance as crowds turned up to rally behind the young talents.
Allan Kitimbwa broke the deadlock with good strike from close range. Kitiibwa faced a challenge from defender Ronald Kimera but the forward strong before he guided the ball home.
From that point, Kawempe took full charge of the game giving a lot of trouble to the hosts’ whose home crowd had gone silent.
In the 23rd minute, Kibuli came close to levelling matters through Ibrahim Mansuri after beating a forest of legs before he guided the ball inches wide of the frame.
It was a more open game in the second half as both sides kept attacking as the fans kept chatting as they witnessed the thrilling game.
Kibuli came close once again as Patrick Sserujongi’s delivery gave Kawempe Muslim’s backline trouble before the Kawempe’s custodian collected the remains.
Alfred Ssebunya levelled matters with a low powerful strike as Kawempe Muslim finally conceded to the continuous pressure from the hosts.
With ten minutes to play, Steven Bukenya replaced Isma Jjuuko who was earlier lifted off the field of play due to a muscle strain.
After a one-all draw in normal time, the hosts Kibuli went on to win the game in penalties edging a sprinted Kawempe side.
It was not an easy day for Kawempe Muslim who earlier lost to Uganda Martyrs 1-0 in the girls’ football final.
Uganda Cup | Quarterfinals
As KCCA look for the 11th Uganda Cup title, a tough duel against BUL awaits them at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.
The two sides have sofar met twice in the league. BUL have gathered a lions’share of the points having beaten KCCA at home before the two sides shared spoils at Lugogo.
However since then, the Kasasiro Boys have put their house in order and have gone all the way to register decents results.
In the pre-match conference, KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru revealed that their poor run is behind them and all that matters is the next game.
“That’s history, all that matters is our next game and we shall handle one at a time,” he stated.
“The lads are ready and aware of the task ahead of us. Its a tough game against a good side but we are more than ready as we seek to continue our journey in the cup,” he added.
KCCA will miss the services of attacking midfielder Ashraf Mugume who has a muscle strain while BUL have no injury worry.
Uganda Premier League side URA FC will host their remaining home games at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
The development was confirmed via the club’s official website today Friday, April 12, 2024.
The change in venue signifies a new chapter as URA prepares for its next league chapter as they take on NEC FC on Tuesday, April 16.
For starters, URA was hosting their league games at Metha Stadium, Lugazi before the management of the place asked the club to seek homage elsewhere.
They later moved to MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo where they played Vipers SC before later moving to Wakisha.
The Tax Collectors will now embark on collecting as many points as possible in the remaining league games so as to improve their position on the log.
URA lies ninth on the log with 31 points in 23 games.
