Uganda Premier League side KCCA confirms the signing of Peter Lwasa as the second signing of the mid-season transfer window.

Lwasa joins the Kasasiro Boys after putting pen on a short-term deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

While speaking to KCCA media, Lwasa made it clear that he wants to contribute to the current project and push the club to greater heights.

“I want to contribute to the current project and that is why I am here. I want to help the club achieve its objectives,” Lwasa revealed.

“I am happy for this opportunity to join KCCA FC. To be honest, when the club approached me I did not have to think twice about it,” he added.

“I believe together with the rest of the rest of the group we can achieve something great.”

Lwasa is an attacking midfielder who can also comfortably play on the right and left flanks thus introducing a fresh option for Abdallah Mubiru upfront.

He has previously played for URA FC, Sofapaka FC, Kariobangi, Gor Mahia, and Lubumbashi Sport.

KCCA will return to action on Friday, February 2 as they take on log leaders BUL FC at MTN Omondi Stadium.

As the mid-season transfer season comes to an end, Uganda Premier League side Vipers Sports Club has confirmed the departure of midfielder Abdu Lumala.

Lumala leaves the Kitende-based side on mutual consent after running down his contract having joined as a free agent in July 2022.

The development of the departure was confirmed today Wednesday, January 30 via the club’s official website.

“Vipers Sports Club can confirm that midfielder Abdu Lumala has left the club by mutual consent,” the statement partly reads.

Lumala leaves with three goals and five assists gathered in 20 games. He leaves Kitende after lifting the UPL and Uganda Cup in the previous season.

The ‘Electric Man’ was so integral as the Venoms saw off TP Mazembe to find a path into the prestigious CAF group stages.

Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC has acquired the services of goalkeeper Mutwalibu Mugolofa in the current transfer window.

Mutwalibu has put pen to a short-term contract that will see him play for the club until the end of the season.

The confirmation of the signing was made on Tuesday, January 30 via the club’s official website.

“Mutwalibu Mugolofa has penned a contract with KCCA FC until the end of the 2023-24 season,” the statement partly reads.

The goalkeeper is the first signing for the club in the mid-season transfer window that has not witnessed several movements across the league.

While speaking to the KCCA media, Mutwalibu expressed his gratitude to join the club and added that it offers a rare chance to compete with the best.

“I am happy to be here. I set goals for myself and part of those were to get back to my very best. KCCA FC offers me an opportunity and I have come here to compete with other good goalkeepers at the club,” he was quoted by the club’s website.

“I am pleased with the philosophy at the club and I cannot wait to get started when the second round resumes,” he added.

Goalkeeper Tom Ikara has extended his stay at BUL Football Club for the next two years.

Ikara put a pen on a two-year employment that will keep him at the club at least until 2026.

Speaking to BUL media, Ikara revealed it’s a genuine honour for him to continue his stay at a big club like BUL.

“It has been a privilege to spend almost two years at BUL and the chance to continue is a genuine honour,” he was quoted by the club’s website.

“Since I arrived here, my career has taken a great path and my progress is clearly visible. Now my future is sorted, all I want is to help this team achieve and win trophies,” he added.

“As one of the goalkeepers here, I surely want to repay the club for the care that they have shown me during the good times and the bad. So I have to play consistently and help the team win games.”

Ikara joined BUL in 2022 but his show at the club has been outstanding forcing the club to extend his stay.

In the 13 games played during the just concluded UPL first-round, he managed six clean sheets in 13 games played.

BUL will return to action on Friday, February 2 as they take on KCCA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in the night football fiesta.

Ahead of the Uganda Premier League second round, Arua Hill SC has confirmed a technical team made up of eight members.

The development was made public today Tuesday, January 30 via the club’s official social handles.

“We would like to welcome our new technical team. The club is glad to appoint the following technical team,” the statement read.

The technical team is made up of Sadik Ssempigi, Frank Kisitu Ssebagala, Umar Ddumba, Sadick Mohammed, Drake Lule, Richard Lukyamuzi, and Tonny Ssenabulya.

Ssempigi returns to a club where he duly served as an assistant coach under Livingstone Charles Mbabazi before he moved on for greener pastures.

The new gaffer’s assignment will be putting together a team that will fight out of the red zone and fight relegation.

The Kongolo lies bottom of the 16-team log with with five points gathered from 15 games of the ongoing UPL campaign.

Uganda Cup | Results

Vipers secured a 2-1 victory against Vipers in the Uganda Cup encounter at Metha Stadium, Lugazi on Monday, January 29.

Vipers nearly took the lead in the second minute through Abubaker Lawal but his header off Allan Okello’s corner kick went inches wide of the frame.

Saidi Khalifhan gave the hosts the lead with six minutes left to play in the first stanza. The forward’s volley went past Alfred Mudekereza after a brilliant finish.

Livingstone Mbabazi made a change, introducing Yunus Sentamu in the place of Lawal at the start of the second half.

Milton Karisa restored parity in the 46th minute. Vipers captain was sent up by Karim Watambala before his powerful effort found the back of the net.

Eight minutes later, Allan Okello finally fired Vipers into the lead with a powerful header off Richard Matovu’s darling cross into the area.

In the 55th minute, Erick Kenzo Kambale was brought down in the box but the referee waved away.

Vipers made a triple change bringing on Bright Anukani, Frank Katongole and Fazil Tumwine for Okello, Watambala and Kambale.

In the 81st minute, Anukani failed to send the ball into the back of the net with the keeper to beat as Arafat Kalyowa made a stunning change.

Vipers made the last change, introducing Martin Kizza for Karisa who limped off the field of play due to an injury.

The visitors had a chance to level matters at the death of the game but Cephas Kambugu’s freekick failed to go past the wall.

“It is a knockout game and what matters is a victory. It doesn’t matter how you get it but it’s always important to ensure that you win. Since we won a double last season, we want to try and do it once again,” Siraje Sentamu said shortly after full-time.

Lango suffered a 1-0 loss to West Nile in the second leg of the FUFA Drum semi-finals at a game played at Greenlight Stadium on Sunday.

However, it was not enough to send them into the final since Lango came into the game with a 2-0 advantage.

In Front of their home fans, West Nile came into the game so motivated to turn around events with a comeback. 

In the early minutes, Shaban Muhammed attempted an overhead kick while Rwothomio Cromwell’s header sailed inches wide of the frame.

Halfway through the first stanza, Emmanuel Obua made a goal-line clearance denying Alfred Leku whose header got on target while standing in a forest of bodies.

As the first stanza came to closure, Tonny Kyamera made a double save denying Shaban and defender Brigt Vuni from close range.

Shaban finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute. The agile forward was quick to put a touch on Fred Amaku’s effort and the home side erupted in jubilation.

Six minutes later, Shaban’s header off Rashid Okocha’s delivery rattled off the frame before Obua made a timely clearance.

The backline partnership of Musa Ramathan and John Paul Acire was outstanding, giving a great shield to Lango’s goal area.

In the other game, Jerome Kirya’s goal sealed Busoga Province’s qualification to the final after beating the Teso Province home and away.

Defensive midfielder Jerome Kirya has extended his stay at BUL FC after putting pen paper on a two-year employment contract.

This means Kirya will be committed to the Eastern Giants until 2026 after extending his stay at the Jinja-based club before his contract expires.

The development was made public on Saturday, January 27 through a statement shared on the club’s official website.

“We can announce the midfielder Jerome Kirya has signed a two-year employment contract extension with BUL,” the statement partly reads.

“He commits to the Eastern Giants at least until July 2026 since his earlier contract was meant to expire in June this year,” it went on.

After putting the pen on paper, Kirya expressed his gratitude noting he badly wanted to stay at a club that equally wanted him.

“I was sure I wanted to stay here for a long time and was also sure the club wanted me to,” Kirya was quoted by the club’s website.

“Everything was peaceful, and now we can fully concentrate on what is already looking like a great season,” he added.

Kirya joined BUL in 2021 from Busoga United, during his time at the club he helped the club lift the Uganda Cup and also finished in fourth place for the first time.

Asubo Gafford held Kampala Queens in a 0-0 draw in the FUFA Women Super League encounter played at Kampala Quality Grounds, Kisasi on Saturday.

The golden point continues to show how Asubo Gafford has greatly improved as the first round of the campaign came to an end.

Asubo Gafford also forced a goalless stalemate against table leaders Kawempe Muslim in yet another tight game.

It was a closely contested game where possession was evenly shared in the middle park thus creating limited chances at either goal.

In the 42nd minute, Kamiyat Naigaga forced Kampala Queens’ custodian Daisy Nakaziro into a full-stretch save thwarting the powerful effort away.

Four minutes past an hour of football, Catherine Nagadya’s effort rattled off the frame as the Queens of soccer nearly took the lead.

The point sends Asubo to the seventh position on the log with nine points while Kampala Queens are second with 20 points.

The first round has not been rosy for Kampala Queens since they have already dropped seven points while last season, they won all games at the same stage.

The teams will take a break before the second round gets underway on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Uganda Premier League side Express Football Club has confirmed the departure of five more players.

The five players are goalkeeper Martin Ssenkooto, defenders Denis Otim, and Ashraf Mbaziira, and forwards Sheif Batte and Jonathan Agoucha.

The development was confirmed on Thursday, January 25 through an official statement posted on the club’s official social handles.

“The club announces the departure of Denis Otim, Sheif Batte, Martin Ssenkoto, Jonathan Aguocha, and Mbazira Ashraf. The Club is grateful for the time they have spent with it wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement reads.

Defender Otim walks away from the club at the end of two and a half years contract. He walks away from the club without commanding a starting place in the starting lineup.

The forward Sheif Batte also walks through the back door having played eight league games but scoring no goal.

Since the arrival of gaffer Alex Isabirye, Express has turned around its campaign gathering 25 points in the 15 games played in the first round.
