After two and a half years of being Kampala Queens captain, Zainah Namuleme has decided to step down from the role.

Namuleme expressed his gratitude to the Lugogo-based side but also wished her successor all the best as the journey unfolds.

“Today I cease to be the captain of this club. It has been a great honour to serve as the captain of Kampala Queens Football Club,” she stated.

“I thank the club for giving me a special opportunity to serve in the best way possible,” she added.

Namuleme took over the role from Fauzia Najjembe at the start of the 2021/22 season. Najjemba had earlier replaced Aisha Namukisa.

Under her reign, Kampala Queens won their maiden FUFA Women Super League trophy in the previous season after coming so close in the 2021/22 campaign.

“Me and my fellow players and the new captain will play our hearts out to achieve our ultimate target of defending our league title this season.”

“I strongly believe the club’s armband will be in safe hands and I wish our new skipper the very best in all her endeavours,” she concluded.

Kampala Queens lie second on the log with 24 points, three behind log leaders Kawempe Muslim.

They will be taking on Rines SS WFC on Sunday, April 7 as they return to action shortly after a one-all draw against the UCU Lady Cardinals.

Kawempe Muslim secured a narrow 1-0 victory against She Maroons in the FUFA Women’s Super League encounter played on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Hadijah Nandago’s strike was everything Kawempe Muslim needed to seal maximum points on the day.

In front of the huge crowd that was led by the school fraternity, Kawempe started strong sending several bodies upfront.

Agnes Nabukenya nearly fired the hosts ahead but his effort from the freekick bounced off the frame before Bridget Nabisaalu cleared her lines.

Before the first stanza came to an end, Samalie Nakacwa made a timely clearance to deny Joweria Babirye’s chip-over goalkeeper Juliet Adeke.

Nandago broke the deadlock with a weighed touch to guide the ball past Maroons custodian Esther Akujo in the 74th minute.

Nandago was quick to connect with Nakacwa’s long pass and this time round the ball found the back of the net after missing earlier on two occasions.

Uganda Cup holders Vipers SC have drawn Kitara at the quarterfinal stage of this year’s edition.

The knockout tournament has been spiced up with this duel as many believe the final has come in a bit early than expected.

The tie was confirmed during the draws that were held at FUFA Complex, Mengo on Wednesday morning.

The defending champions Vipers will be taking on Kitara who are currently sitting on top of the log with 44 points in 22 games.

Kitara are unbeaten at home in the ongoing season, they have won all games and only shared spoils on two occasions.

Vipers will have a great test of character in this tie since it’s the first top-tier side they are playing in the ongoing campaign.

To reach this stage, Kitara ousted SC Villa while Vipers easily whitewashed regional side Iganga Young FC.

In the other games, BUL will take on KCCA FC in the all-top-tier affair at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. With the Kasasiro Boys trying to find their mojo in the league they will want to keep intact their positive run in the Uganda Cup.

Meanwhile, Fufa Big League log leaders Police will face top-tier side NEC while Pajule Lions will lock horns with Pakwach Young Stars FC.

Unlike the previous games, the quarter-final games will be pushed to extra time in case the normal time ends in a draw.

University Football League – Results

Nkumba University edged Kampala University in a two-legged University Football League semi-finals to seal a spot in the final.

Nkumba will then take on Uganda Christian University (UCU) in the final of the ongoing tournament that will be climaxing this month.

The development was sealed after a one-all draw at the Nkumba University playground on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a tense environment as the centre referee sent the two sides into the locker rooms with Kampala University in the driving seat.

Ishaque Balyawo levelled matters with a powerful header off Ismael Lubega’s well-weighed free kick three minutes into the second stanza.

The visitors did everything they could to try and reclaim the lead in the game but Nkumba’s backline stood firm and tall.

In the first leg, Nkumba secured a 1-0 victory thus walking into the final for the first time since 2016.

In 2016, they lost to today’s opponent 3-2 as the latter was clinching the second UFL title.

The final between Nkumba and UCU will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

UMEA Games 2024 | Girls Final

Agnes Nabukenya scored a brace as Kawempe Muslim beat Masaka SS in the girls’ football final on Monday, April 1, 2024.

But Nabukenya failed to convert from the 12-yard mark as her attempt went wide of the frame thus keeping Masaka SS’s hopes high.

However, Nabukenya redeemed her name as she doubled Kawempe’s lead with a long-range strike towards the final minute of the duel.

The victory guided Kawempe to the podium as they successfully defended their prestigious title.

Nabukenya was also named the top scorer of the tournament as she managed to bag 26 goals, 14 of which were scored during the 24-0 victory against debutants Kabukunge Muslim.

URA head coach David Obua says his side was unlucky in the game they lost 2-0 against Vipers in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday.

Despite falling to Vipers 2-0, the Tax Collectors had a great game weaving in a number of passes but failed to take away their chances in front of goal.

In the post-match conference, Obua stated that the game could easily go either way though they will now shift focus to the next opponent.

“We were unlucky yet again, not to go ahead of this one too. The game should have gone either way,” Obua stated before adding.

“I am always telling the boys, to be lucky you have to work harder than the opponent. These guys (Vipers) were in the back kicking balls. They’re the champions, they’ve got more quality players and you would expect that they should have played a better game than us,” he added.

“Generally am happy with the boys. We didn’t change our style of play, regardless of what pressure that was surrounding us, we kept on playing. We won’t give up and we shall come back again.”

The gaffer also commended the officiating for being fair and giving the game the required attention thus blaming the loss on the opposition’s lack of concentration.

The winless run for URA extends to four games across all competitions. They lie eighth on the log with 31 points after 22 games.

Next on the log, URA will visit Express on Saturday, April 6 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

In the pre-match conference, Lutalo revealed that they hardly staged a deserving first half but were able to return in the second half with a lot of urge to see the work done.

“I thank the team for the great fight made to see that all points belong to us,” Lutalo stated shortly after the final whistle.

“We had not a so good first half but we came back with the hunger to secure a win which we did. We are now looking towards the games up front. I thank the fans for the turn-up,” he added.

It was a close encounter from the start though SC Villa edged Mbarara City taking away two of the many chances created in front of goal.

Lutalo fired the home side ahead in the 21st minute through a free kick. The agile midfielder’s free-kick was perfectly guided into the back of the net after Diego Missi Semugera was fouled at the edge of the box.

However, Mbarara City levelled matters through Henry Kitegenyi after Villa’s custodian Jean Braddy Wokorach failed to deal with the delivery.

Kiwanuka regained Villa’s lead in the 69th minute after connecting with Joseph Kafumbe’s well-weighed delivery.
