BUL FC ended 2023 on top of the Uganda Premier League and more good news came as they secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against the defending champions Vipers SC.

Thereafter they concluded the year with a narrow 1-0 victory against Busoga United. The oil manufacturers secured the Jinja Derby bragging rights thanks to Alex Kitata’s lonely goal.

However, another assignment awaits them as they visit Gaddafi FC in yet another Jinja Derby on Wednesday, January 3.

In the pre-match interview, BUL Head Coach Abby Bogere Kikomeko revealed that Jinja Derbies are always a big challenge but as a team they are up for it.

“Tomorrow [today] we are playing our second derby against Gaddafi FC. It has always been a tough team to play but played the first derby against Busoga and managed to win it,” he said.

“We shall do all it takes to see that we register maximum points from the game. I know they lost their previous game against Maroons so they will be seeking to bounce back. They will have the home advantage but we shall fight to pick something positive,” he added.

BUL FC will miss hard-working midfielder Pascal Ngobi who is still out due to a long-term injury. The gaffer confirmed that all the other players are available for selection.

On the other side of the coin, Gaddafi comes into this game after falling to Maroons in a huge 5-0 loss. This marks three consecutive losses to Villa (1-0), Wakiso Giants (1-0) and recently the Prison Wardens.

The fixture is so crucial to both sides as BUL seeks to extend its lead on the log, Gaddafi will be fighting tooth and nail to end the poor run.

KCCA registered a 3-2 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Tuesday.

Norman Namanya nodded the visitors into the lead in the fourth minute. Namanya brushed Godfrey Ssekibengo’s floated freekick into the back of the net as KCCA’s backline locked on.

Six minutes later, the Tax Collectors were knocking on the door once again but Ssekibengo’s low drive went just inches wide of the frame.

Halfway through the first stanza, KCCA got hold of the middle park and the visitors were surely living dangerously.

Rogers Omedwa made a stunning save to palm away Etienne Katenga’s delivery from the left flank. Abu Mayanja laid a well-weighed pass to Katenga but the assistant referee flagged him offside.

In the 37th minute, KCCA gaffer Abdallah Mubiru introduced Muhammad Shaban to replace Mayanja in the first change of the game.

Before the second stanza got underway, Saidi Mayanja replaced Cungulo Gui in KCCA’s second change. On the other hand, Denis Kisiriko came on for Bruno Bunyaga.

Herbert Achayi levelled matters in the 48th minute of the game. The roving left-back powerfully nodded home Usama Arafat’s corner kick to bring back the Kasasiro Boys into the game.

Viane Ssekajugo restored URA’s lead at the top of the hour. KCCA’s custodian Derrick Ochan palmed away Eric Ssenjobe’s freekick before Sekajugo tapped into an empty net.

Eight minutes later, Sekajugo nodded into his net to bring the game to level before Shaban gave KCCA the lead in the 72nd minute.

The victory takes KCCA to the ninth position with 19 points while URA are seventh with 20 points after playing 14 games.

Jeremy Matata and Emmanuel Ajo scored the two goals for Busoga United while Paul Mucureezi pulled one back for the visitors from the penalty spot.

George Senkaaba missed a glorious chance to give the visitors an early chance in the second minute. His chilly effort was palmed away by Micheal Lutaya after a mix-up in Busoga’s backline.

Jeremy Matata gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute. The forward slotted the ball past Kitara’s on-running custodian Chrispus Kusiima after being set up by Emmanuel Ajo.

Eight minutes later, Matata nearly doubled the lead but Kitara’s defender Jasper Aheebwa cleared the ball off the line as it nearly went in.

Before half the hour mark, Senkaaba nearly levelled matters through a volley but Lutaya palmed the effort away.

Mucureezi finally levelled matters in the 67th minute. The forward sent Lutaya the wrong way as converted from the 12-yard mark. Kitara were awarded a penalty after they went off Isaac Isinde’s hand.

But Busoga had a quick response, reclaiming their lead after five minutes through Ajo. It was a clinical finish from the forward who turned Ibrahim Magandazi before he struck the ball into the roof of the net.

While Kitara thought they had found the equaliser through Aheebwa, the assistant referee overturned it citing that the defender was in the offside position.

Kitara remained second on the log with 26 points while Busoga rose to the 12th position with 15 points from 14 games.

The Royals return to action on Friday, January 5 as they host Bright Stars while Busoga United will be on the road to play Vipers SC on Sunday, January 7.

Hakim Kiwanuka doubled the hosts’ lead in the 32nd minute. The forward’s powerful effort was deflected into the back of the net by UPDF custodian, Jimmy Okidi.

The second-half start was delayed as the officials asked the stadium management to re-mark the pitch after the rain had washed away the lines.

Kakande extended the Villa’s lead to 3-0 up. The pacy forward was calm and lethal enough to take away Charles Lwanga’s delivery in the 47th minute.
