KCCA FC has won all its three previous games for the first time in the ongoing 2023/24 Uganda Premier League campaign.
However, the sweet and decent run faces the URA FC threat as the two sides face off in a highly anticipated duel set to be played at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo under the floodlights.
In the pre-match interview, KCCA assistant head coach Jackson Magera told the club media that the preparations before the game have been spot on and only await a positive harvest.
“We have prepared well for this game and if the players follow the game plan then we can pick maximum points,” he said.
“We welcome Mustafa Kizza and Peter Magambo back from injury. Unfortunately, we shall miss Dominic Ayella and Emmanuel Loki due to groin and hamstring injuries,” he added.
The medical team will continue supervising Haruna Lukwago who experienced pain in the ankle from the training ground while Emilson Gonzaga is ruled out due to a long-term injury.
In the previous 26 meetings between the two sides, KCCA has won seven times while URA has won 12 thus sharing spoils on seven occasions.
However, the last league meeting of the two teams ended in the favour of URA who registered a 3-0 victory at Metha Stadium in Lugazi.
KCCA lie ninth on the log with 16 points while URA are seventh with 20 points gathered from 13 games.

Kitara FC continues to rise and make their fans proud due to the colourful return to the Uganda Premier League.
The Royals will be away from home as they lock horns with Busoga United at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Tuesday evening.
Kitara come into this game after a 7-1 victory against hapless Arua Hill SC infront of their home crowd. It was goals galore for Kitara FC as Arua Hill turned up with only eight layers.
In the pre-match conference, Kitara FC head coach revealed that the encounter against Busoga United will not be a walkover since they are facing a side that seeks to regain the grove.
“We start the year with a game against Busoga United. We come in this game after a hue victory against Arua Hill SC, much as we scored many goals te performance was lacking,” he told the club media.
“We need to improve our performance and I hope the boys put it into consideration. We play a very tough side in Busoga United and they have shown that they can always get points from where you do not expect them,” he added.
“I know they will come into the game wanting to prove a point. We know the task ahead and we have tried to prepare so that we collect maximum points. I know these are one of the games we have to get a victory. But if you want to success then you ought to tussle out the very best.”
Busoga United put up a great performance in the 1-0 loss against BUL, they created a number of chances but lacked the sharpness upfront of goal to bury away any of those great plays.
Against Busoga United, this should be a golden chance for Kitara to to cement their second position on the log. Since a victory will take them only three points behind log leaders BUL FC.
While Busoga United are in the 14th position on the 16-team log with 12 points. They have sofar secured three victories, made three draws and suffered seven losses.
Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC has appointed Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as their new head coach.
Mbabazi is set to take over from Brazilian gaffer Leonard Neiva who was recently relieved from the coaching duties at the Kitende-based club.
The gaffer’s appointment was confirmed on Monday, January 1, 2024 through the club’s official communication platforms.
“Vipers is delighted to welcome Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as our new head coach, joining us on a two year employment contract,” the statement partly reads.
The 43-year-old gaffer will kick start his reign right away in a journey that is meant to run until 2026.
Mbabazi will be tasked to end Vipers’ tough run where they have lost twice on the bounce. The first blow was suffered to BUL in a 3-2 loss before they fell to Express in a 2-0 loss.
Vipers will return on the green turf on Wednesday, January 3rd as they host NEC FC under the floodlights.
However, Mbabazi joins from bottom placed Arua Hill SC that has only managed a single victory in the 13 games played thus far.
The gaffer has previously coached at Onduparaka, Masavu FC, Mbarara City, Bright Stars, Lweza FC and the Somalia National Team.
SC Villa registered a 1-0 victory against Wakiso Giants in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Saturday.
It was a narrow contest that was separated by only one goal scored by Charles Lwanga a minute past the hour mark after nodding home Kyeyune’s delivery.
The man of the match, Kyeyune revealed that having a better character and enthusiasm drove them past Wakiso Giants in the tight duel.
“The game was so close and the teams had a lot in common but we had better character,” he said shortly after the final whistle.
“I’m happy that the team managed to get all the needed points in the game. I am also happy for having contributed to a goal and also getting the man of the match award,” he added.
“I believe we did whatever we had to do, and where we failed, we returned to the drawing board and corrected the mistakes.”
SC Villa moved fourth on the log with 22 points while Wakiso Giants are 12th with 13 points after playing 13 games.
Villa will return on the green turf on Tuesday, January 2 as they host hapless UPDF.
The 2023 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup concluded on Saturday, 30th December with Busiki County claiming their first-ever title.
Ismail Ndifuna netted the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute of the game to help Busiki collect their first silverware.
The victors started the game played at a packed-to-capacity Kakindu Stadium in the heart of Jinja city the better side and assumed early control of the game.
Little surprise that the first clear-cut chance came their way as Alimansi Bidondole’s long-range effort rattled off the crossbar in the ninth minute to send early signs.
Butembe responded to the early pressure from their opponents and nearly took the lead with forward Tonny Tulituka landing their first chance of the game but narrowly missed target from about 20 yards out.
Tilituka wasted two more chances before halftime while at the other end, Owen Isabirye and Ndifuna wasted a couple of chances as the scoreboard read nil-nil at the break.
While Busiki remained in control of possession after halftime, the first chance of the second half went to Butembe but a wasteful Tilituka tapped George Mutuuba’s glorious cross over the bar.
The Match’s defining moment arrived with under 20 minutes to play after Ndifuna curled home past goalkeeper Peter Kadama after a solo run to spark wild celebrations from Busiki fans.
Busiki stood firm for the remaining minutes to win the cup that came along with a cash reward of Ugx 12,000,000. Butembe got silver medals and Ugx 8,000,000 whilst Kigulu who finished third after beating Bugabula 3-1 early took home Ugx 6,000,000.

Express FC registered a 2-0 victory against Vipers in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
It was the first time Alex Isabirye faced his former paymasters after parting ways from St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Express overcame Vipers who suffered a second successive loss shortly after falling to log leaders BUL FC as the scoreboard read 3-2 in favour of the latter.
Isma Kawawulo and Isaac Wagoina scored in either half of the game as the Red Eagles claimed the bragging rights.
Kawulo fired the hosts ahead in the 38th minute. The left-back got his name onto the scoresheet with a sweet rebound after Emmanuel Wasswa’s freekick failed to go past the wall.
Wagoina sealed off the game in the 77th minute. The on-form forward went past Murushid Juuko before he slotted the ball past goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu.
It was the second victory for Express in a row after humbling NEC earlier at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Express moved eighth on the log with 19 points in 13 points while Vipers dropped to fourth with 24 points.
Both sides will return to action on Wednesday, December 3. Express travels to Adjumani to play Arua Hill while Vipers host NEC at Kitende.

SC Villa edged Wakiso Giants in a 1-0 Uganda Premier League victory at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Saturday evening.
Charles Lwanga scored the only goal as the visitors registered maximum points on the day.
SC Villa came into the game bouncing from a 2-1 loss against KCCA in a Kampala Derby while Wakiso Giants overcame Gaddafi in a 1-0 narrow victory.
Both sides had early chances in the game but were not sharp enough to take away the chances created in front of goal.
The hosts nearly took the lead as early as the fifth minute but Lincoln Mukisa failed to bury Hassan Ssenyonjo’s delivery in front of the goal line.
Joseph Kafumbe stung Bashir Ssekagya’s gloves with a long-range effort but the custodian was strong enough to deal with the effort.
Lwanga jumped highest to node home in a tight angle and the goal turned out to be the decider of the game.
The victory moved Villa to the fifth position with 22 points while Wakiso Giants are 12th on the 16-team log after playing 13 points.

URA FC registered a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at Metha Stadium in Lugazi on Friday.
Moses Aliro, Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Norman Namanya scored the goals as the Tax Collectors crowned the year on a high.
Namanya fired the hosts into the lead on 35 minutes. The hard-working midfielder’s long-range effort went through a forest of bodies before it rested in the back of the net.
With three minutes to fulltime, lanky forward Ahimbisibwe nodded home Ibrahim Dada’s darling ball into the area.
In added time, Aliro put the icing on the cake with a sublime header thanks to another Dada delivery.
URA move to the sixth position on the log with 20 points while Mbarara City are 11th with 13 points after playing 13 games.
David Obua’s troops return to action on Tuesday, January 2 in the night against KCCA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium while Mbarara City takes on Wakiso Giants earlier on the same day.
Elsewhere, NEC FC and Bright Stars played to a goalless draw in the night game at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo under floodlights.
The curtains come down on the 2023 Busoga Masaza Cup today (Saturday, 30th December) as Busiki takes on Butembe in the final at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja.
Winners of the tournament in 2017, Butembe will be targeting their second title while their opponents will be looking to get their name on the cup for the first.
Afan Ikoba, the head coach of Butembe, says his troops prepared well for the clash and are ready for the battle.
“We prepared well. The training sessions have been great and all the players are mentally and physically ready for the battle at hand,” Ikoba who doubles as the Jinja North United coach said.
The final promises high stakes with prize money of 12 million shillings for the winner and 8 million for the runners-up.
Before the final, Bugabula will take on Kigulu in the third-place playoff.
The chief guest of the finale will be the Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom His Majesty William Nadiope IV.
Previous Winners
Bukoli Bugiri won the inaugural edition in 2016 and Butembe won the subsequent tournament before Kigulu won back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.
The tournament was not played in the two COVID years before returning last year when Bukooli Namayingo were victors.

URA FC seek to crown an emotional year on a high as they take on Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at Metha Stadium in Lugazi.
The Tax Collectors have been inconsistent since the arrival of head coach David Obua. Their change of style has greatly affected them and they have suffered goals that can easily be avoided.
In the pre-match conference, Obua revealed that they have changed several things so they expect a better show.
“We have prepared well and we have tried to make a couple of changes here and there so we expect a better performance,” he said.
“Let us see if they will function well for us. We are at home and we want to win so we can close the year on a high. We also want to win for our fans. Expect some exciting players so come let’s enjoy,” he added.
In the previous 12 meetings between the two sides, URA has won thrice while Mbarara City has won once, they have shared spoils on eight occasions.
URA is seventh on the log with 12 points while Mbarara City is 11th with 13 points after playing 12 games.
