Kitara head coach Brian Ssenyondo and BUL forward Alex Kitata were named as September and October’s best UPL coach and player respectively.

The duo were rewarded accolades in the ceremony that happened at Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo on Wednesday evening.

To win the accolade, Ssenyondo managed to beat stiff competition from BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko and NEC’s head coach Hussein Mbalangu.

While Kitata also stood shoulders above Maroons’ forward Fred Amaku and Kitara’s goal poacher Denis Omedi.

Kitata, Amaku, and Omedi scored three goals each but the winner of the accolade managed to spice up his goal tally with two assists.

At the end of October, Kitara FC and BUL FC sat at the helm of the log with 15 points apiece after five games though the Royals were a step in front due to their goal tally.

After playing seven games, BUL still leads the log with 18 points while Kitara comes second with two points less.

The Uganda U-15 boys’ national team, Rhinos is set to lock horns with Zanzibar in what is anticipated to be a thrilling encounter to put a lid onto the ongoing tournament.

The two unbeaten sides will play at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Thursday, November 16.

Uganda kickstarted the journey to the finals with a thumping 15-0 victory against Djibouti before they beat South Sudan 3-0.

They later sealed off the group with a 4-0 victory against Ethiopia to storm the semifinals. During the semifinals, they conceded the first goal in a slim 2-1 win against Tanzania.

Prior to the game, Uganda’s tactician Hamza Lutalo revealed that Zanzibar are a good side with a solid backline buth added that he is blessed with a sharp frontline that will penetrate them.

“They (Zanzibar) have a solid defence but we also have a sharp striking line to penetrate them as we fight to defend our title,” Lutalo revealed.

“We will change our tactics used in the semifinal to fit the new opponent – Zanzibar because they have a different playing style,” he added.

Uganda’s Enock Bagenda will go into the game seeking two goals to match South Sudan’s Lazarus Peter who tops the scoring chart with eight goals.

Uganda Cranes midfielder William Kizito Luwagga is excited to return to the fold after being out for more than two years.

Luwagga was part of the Uganda Cranes squad that played in the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

While speaking to FUFA media, he revealed that he is delighted to return to the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

“It is always a pleasure to come back to the National Team. I’m always ready and working hard to represent my country. So I’m delighted to be here and try to help my country to do well,” Luwagga revealed.

“I need to be an example to the young players on the team. I have not played with most of them but this is an opportunity for me to share knowledge with them and also learn from them,” he added.

“We have a good team and as players, we only have to step up and do what is required of us.”

Luwagga called upon the fans to back up the boys who are ready to give out everything for the badge.

“To the fans, I ask you to rally behind us and we promise you to do our best and make you proud,” he said.

Uganda Cranes are set to play Guinea on Friday, 17th November 2023 before locking horns with Somalia four days later.

Uganda Cranes are pitted in Group G alongside Somalia, Guinea, Algeria, Botswana and Mozambique.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled Sheryl Botes as the new Crested Cranes’ head coach.

FUFA confirmed the appointment of the Botes during a press conference held at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday, November 15.

FUFA has awarded Botes with three-year employment with an assignment to take the Crested Cranes to the next level.

During the press conference, Botes assured that she is ready for the assignment and that she will do all it takes to improve Crested Cranes.

“I am looking forward to this journey and I want to make a commitment that there will be an improvement in the way we play football,” Botes said.

“The main objective is to make sure that the Crested Cranes becomes one of the most competitive teams in Africa. We want to compete in every competition so that we become a winning nation once again,” she added.

The gaffer is expected to take over all the National Women’s Teams including the Junior sides hence allowing her to have a clear image of women’s football in the country.

Botes comes with impressive experience after handling the South Africa U-20 National Team. She also holds the CAF A and SAFA Pro coaching certificates.

SC Villa midfielder Umar Lutalo is eager to make his maiden national team (Uganda Cranes) call count.

Lutalo is among the 27 players who will fly Uganda’s flag during Cranes opening two 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matches to be played in Morocco.

While speaking to SC Villa media, Lutalo revealed it’s such an honour to be representing his country and he is ready to give his all.

“It’s a dream come true. Representing my country at such a prestigious event is an honour, and I am thrilled to be part of Uganda’s journey,” Lutalo was quoted by SC Villa’s official website.

“I believe my versatility on the field and ability to adapt to different positions will be an asset. I am to give my best, whether it’s in defence, midfield or attack,” he added.

“Teamwork and a strong work ethic will be crucial to our success, I am ready to contribute in any way the coaches see will be ultimate to help the team achieve a positive yield.

“The team has been putting in much hard work on and off the field. Our preparations have involved studying Guinea’s playing style, analysing their strengths and weaknesses.”

Lutalo believes his call for national duty is attributed to the chance availed by his club SC Villa accorded him a chance to showcase his skills.

“Playing for SC Villa has been invaluable. The competition in the domestic league is intense, and it has helped me develop both as an individual player and also taught me to play as a team.”

Uganda will lock horns with Guinea on Friday, November 17 before they take on Somalia on Tuesday, November 21.

After eight years, Abdallah Mubiru returns to KCCA FC, a club he left on a very bitter note back in 2015.

However, the gaffer believes the eight years have nurtured him and grown him into a better man ready for the assignment ahead of time.

During his maiden press conference after the announcement of the appointment, Mubiru announced that he left as a boy but now he returns as a man.

“I was a boy in my first stint here but am happy to announce that am now a man,” he confidently told the club’s media team.

“So I think, I have brought maturity back to this place and a lot of experience gathered from different teams as well as working with different players. All that I have gone through has given me a lesson,” he added.

“I expect to use that experience to win and gather whatever God has prepared for me to achieve here.

“I am happy that I am back to KCCA FC after eight years since I left here. It was God’s plan for me to leave so that I go through different scenarios before my return.

“I thank the board, management, and all stakeholders for the trust they have put in me to take over this role at such a critical time.”

Mubiru will face an immediate task to ensure that KCCA plays their way but while winning games something that has eluded the club in previous days.

Without a doubt, the gaffer is one of the best teachers of football but he will be targeting to turn that into tangible achievements which are trophies more so that KCCA has taken years without lifting a title.

After the appointment of Abdallah Mubiru as KCCA FC head coach, he has gone ahead to put together a technical team with which he will work.

Kefa Kisala is among those appointed to work under Mubiru as an assistant coach a role he will assume with Jackson Kaddu Magera.

Kisala returns to a club he played for from 1997 to 2000. So he understands the club’s philosophy as well as the demands from both fans and stakeholders.

Kisala has previously coached Kitayosce FC and Fountain Gate in Tanzania. Locally, he has coached Express FC, Wakiso Giants, Masaka LC, BUL FC, and URA FC.

KCCA FC started the season on a very low note, collecting just four points from seven games, also losing their first five opening games in the process before drawing against Arua Hill SC and later beating Vipers SC.

Among the changes in the shake-up is the appointment of Felix Ayobo as the Fitness Coach. Felix had been relieved from the role by Sergio Traguil before he was sacked.

Moses Oloya will continue in the office of goalkeepers while Saka Mpiima is tasked to build a strong junior side that can hopefully feed the senior team.

KCCA are 14th on the log with four points. They return to action on Friday, November 24.

Uganda Rhinos registered a slim 2-1 victory against Tanzania in the semifinals of the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday.

The victory earned Uganda a spot in the finals of the tournament that they look forward to defending it.

The Rhinos captain Abubakali Walusimbi and Samuel Mubiru were on target as Uganda sealed the much-needed win.

Uganda faced a much tougher challenge from Tanzania unlike the earlier two games played in the group stage.

However, Walusimbi gave Uganda the lead in the 12th minute with a long-range effort leaving the Tanzanian goalkeeper helpless.

Mubiru powerfully nodded home before the halftime whistle to double Uganda’s lead in the close game of football.

Tanzania returned a better side in the second half as they asked Uganda’s backline several questions on the day.

Feisal Juma halved Tanzania’s deficit in the 83rd minute but it was too late to claim something positive out of the game.

On Thursday, Uganda will take on either Zarzinbar or South Sudan in the final of the ongoing tournament.

KCCA FC has unveiled Abdallah Mubiru as their new head coach.

Mubiru arrives at the club as reports linked the vacant role to several names.

The club on Monday confirmed that the soft spoken tactician joins them on a two-year deal and was unveiled by KCCA FC patron Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

“Abdallah Mubiru has been named as new KCCA FC Head Coach for a period of two years,” reads part of the statement from the club.

Mubiru returns to KCCA FC for his second stint, having been at the club in 2014.

He takes over from Portuguese Sergio Daniel Traguil fired by the club in October after losing all the four league games he was in charge.

Mubiru, a former player for KCCA FC, will have his immediate task set at reviving the club following a false start to the season that has seen them garner just four points from six games.

Mubiru has previously coached teams like Police FC, Proline FC, Vipers SC, Mbeya City FC and Uganda Cranes where he was assistant to Jonathan McKinstry.

FUFA Women Super League | Results

Kampala Queens registered a 2-0 victory against Rines SS WFC in the FUFA Women’s Super League match played at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Sunday.

The defending champions did the job early in the first half thus putting themselves in a comfortable place as the game unfolded.

Fazila Ikwaput and Zaina Nandede were on target as the Queens of Soccer sealed off maximum points away from home.

Agile forward Ikwaput gave the visitors the lead with a fine finish. The goal gave Kampala Queens confidence and they surely played like a team in the lead.

Nandede doubled Kampala Queens‘ lead in the 18th minute punishing Rines SS backline for sleeping on the job.

The visitors kept knocking on the door seeking the third goal of the day but Rines’ defenders were up to the task.

In the second half, the hosts asked Kampala Queens some questions goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro did all it took to take home her clean sheet.

It was the third win for Kampala Queens who have so far played four games. They sit on top of the log with 10 points while Rines SS are ninth on the 10-team table.
