KCCA FC squandered a two-goal lead to share spoils with Onduparaka FC in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Kasasiro Boys have a chance to return to winning ways as they take on Vipers in a mouth-watering contest on Friday.

KCCA head coach Jackson Mayanja has called upon his charges to stand and be ready to take something ‘special’ to Vipers SC.

“We are going to Kitende and pull off something special. We need to respond as soon as possible,” Magera told the press in a post-match interview.

Moses Waiswa and Allan Okello gave KCCA the lead early in the second half but Emmanuel Oketch’s late double restored parity for the Caterpillars in a four-goal thriller.

Mayanja was left puzzled about how the result turned around after his side dominated the game for the largest part of it.

“Such a team like Onduparaka, we led 2-0 and dominated the game all through but then gave it away in the last four minutes. That was not normal at all,” he added.

“But we are still continuing to fight for the title. That is football, we need to move on and seek a recovery plan going forward. We have a big game on Friday so we need to bounce back”

The tactician added that the team was undone by the substitutes who did not do enough to fight for the club.

“I do not think the players did enough more so those that came in as substitutes. They did not execute their role, I thought coming off the bench they would add more fresh legs in the park but that was not the case,” he concluded.

KCCA are second with 45 points after 23 games played and will face Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday at 7:00 pm.

City Oilers head coach Mandy Juruni was a very disappointed man after his side lost the third game of the Basketball Africa League in the Nile Conference.

Juruni highlighted the lack of effort as the reason why his troops fell to Guinea’s SLAC in a 96-68 loss to slump to a 0-3 record at the grand stage.

“We just did not compete,” Juruni said shortly after a disappointing result in a game they badly wanted to end the poor run.

“So many layups given away, so many assists gone the wrong side and it summed up how we lacked the togetherness in the game. All that contributed to the pour show and we got punished,” he added.

SLAC exhibited a high class of hunger as they started with the perfect rhythm to take a 24-13 lead after the first quarter.

Guinea’s side carried the lead to the second quarter carding a 20-12 lead ensuring they go to the long break with the scoreboard reading 44-25.

“If you come to play these games, these teams, you have to be mentally and physically ready. I thought we were not mentally and physically ready to play this game.”

“They (SLAC) scored very many points in the paint, we had 20 turnovers, and they scored 19 points off of that. They scored so many uncontested shots,” he underlined.

“We have to show how tough we are. We have two must-win games, and we believe in this team. We believe we can be a better team.”

James Justice Jr topped the scoring list with 30 points while Falando Jones added 20 but all this could not hurt SLAC.

According to Juruni, they picked several lessons from the challenge and will go back to the training ground to try and fix how to return physically and mentally better.

The Oilers tried to have the last kick of the horse but it was too late and the Ugandan Champions fell trailing to 28 points in a one-sided encounter.

They have already lost to Petro de Luanda and Al Ahly and the most recent defeat to SLAC darkened the journey to Kigali as it kicked off the exit story.

KCCA FC shared spoils with Onduparaka FC in a 2-2 stalemate in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi, Lugogo today evening.

KCCA squandered a two-goal lead that they held onto till the 88th minute of the game.

The hosts were the best side of the evening but they lost attention and were punished in the last six minutes of the game including added time.

The Kasasiro Boys came in the game knowing a victory will send them on top of the log but Emmanuel Okech’s late brace denied them all points.

Said Mayanja placed the ball in the back of the net but the goal was cancelled after sighting an offside in the build-up.

Muhammad Shaban came close with his head but the forward failed to direct the ball on the target.

Rashid Yakini had a chance to give the Caterpillars a lead with a few minutes to end the first stanza but Benjamin Ochan pulled off a stunning save to deny the fellow captain.

Eight minutes into the second stanza, Moses Waiswa gave the hosts a well-deserved lead through a well-curled free kick from the edge of the box.

Ten minutes later, Allan Okello doubled the lead with a well-taken effort after beating a forest of legs in the area.

But with two minutes to play, Okech scored a brilliant curling effort past Ochan.

In added time, Okech raised high beating his maker Mustafa Mujuzi to node home a late leveler.

It was the first time the Lugogo-based side has dropped points under new tactician Jackson Mayanja.

The point leaves KCCA second on the log with 45 points while Onduparaka is still bottom with 15.

Vipers seek a quick response by returning to winning ways after suffering a narrow but painful defeat to SC Villa on Saturday.

Karim Ndugwa is positive that today’s game gives them a chance to get back on to the positive run.

“Yes, we lost our previous game but you saw we had chances but failed to convert them something we have worked on and I know today we return on to the positive run,” he said ahead of the night fiesta.

“We are together as a club and believe it was only a slip in a marathon and we can still get back and continue with the chase going forward because our sight is still on the prize,” he added.

The previous loss meant that the Venoms are now seven points adrift of the log leaders Villa who have played three games more.

But Ndugwa thinks the title race is still open and the Kitende-based side has no pressure whatsoever going forward.

“Our chances of clinching the title are still many and we are not under pressure however we need to win all our games and put ourselves in the best position to defend the title.”

On the other hand, it’s not been easy for Gaddafi who kick-started the campaign with a target of fighting for the trophy.

They currently lie 10th with 29 points gathered from 23 games.

They have currently lost twice in a row against Arua Hill and KCCA and will come into this duel also searching for redemption.

In the reverse fixture, the Jinja-based side upset the Venoms who fell to a 1-0 loss thanks to Alex Kitata’s early strike.

In the last three meetings, Vipers have won twice and today’s visitors have been on the winning side once.

City Oilers star Jimmy Enabu has called upon teammates to do all it takes to see that they pick a victory against SLAC tomorrow.

The record eight-time National Basketball League champions have not picked a win at the Basketball Africa League after falling to Petro de Luanda and Al Ahly.

City Oilers have a chance to bring the run to an end as they take on Guinea side SLAC and Enabu believes it’s up to them to do the job.

“We need to redeem ourselves,” Enabu said shortly after the last training ahead of the important clash.

“The feeling is we lost the first two games and we need to win the next game. Getting a victory will give us the best of momentum going forward, create confidence in the camp and put us in a better place to compete and fight for a place in Kigali,” he added.

“I think we are working, we can only know how far we have gotten better. We need to share the ball more and get everyone involved on the offensive end pick each other up and we shall be good to go.”

The guard emphasised that the opponent ahead of them is a decent one but also underlined how they can go ahead to punish the Guinea side.

“They (SLAC) are a good team and also a hustle team. They play a lot of hustle defence and give many shots so I think we need to be ready to take advantage of their loopholes more so in the defence and play with more pace,” Enabu underlined.

The Oilers will have to win all their remaining games against SLAC, Cape Town, and Ferroviario da Beira if they are to progress to the playoffs that are set to be played in Kigali later this month.

“Winning a basketball game will be the best for us because it will be a source of confidence and also lighten up our way to Kigali because it’s the next level, so the game is so important to us and we shall treat it with the deserved attention it deserves,” he concluded.

The Ugandan side will be ignited by their sprinted performance in their previous game against the tournament hosts Al Ahly which saw them fight from 33 points down only to lose by only two.

Wakiso Giants held BUL FC to a goalless draw in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Monday.

It was a boring duel as both sides laboured to find the back of the net only to share spoils as matchday 26 got underway.

The Jinja-based side is now winless in their last 10 games registering six draws and four defeats while Wakiso Giants picked their third draw of the second round in which they have won once and lost six games.

The home side where denied a chance to enjoy their playing style due to the soggy ground that was in a trying state due to the heavy downpour in the morning.

The visitors got a chance to take the lead through Ibrahim Nsimbe but his snapshot sailed straight to Bashir Ssekagya’s gloves.

Jerome Kirya and Reagan Kalyowa also came close in the second stanza but could not get the ball past the dotted line.

The Purple Sharks also came close through Marvin Nyanzi but his effort lacked enough energy to beat Saidi Keni who palmed it away for a corner kick.

Substitute Tom Matsiko saw his free-kick sail away from the target despite being in a strategic position to hurt the visitors in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The last clear chance fell on Richard Okello’s foot through a counter-attack but his low hard effort was blocked by Rahmat Ssenfuka with a timely tackle.

The point leaves Wakiso Giants eighth with 32 points while BUL are sixth with 33.

Next on the fixture, Wakiso Giants will visit Busoga United on Saturday, May 13 while BUL FC will host Arua Hill SC on Wednesday, May 10th

Wakiso Giants will take on BUL in the Uganda Premier League at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium as matchday 26 gets underway.

However, the two sides will be desperate for victory having lost their leads in the previous games hence settling for a point each.

The Purple Sharks and BUL were decent sides in the first round and often knocked on the door to be part of the title contention but since the start of the second round, they have run out of steam.

BUL head coach Simeon Masaba is optimistic that their hard times are to be concluded and they are going to get their first win of the second round.

“I think we can regroup well and get the first win of the second round,” Masaba told the club media.

“Everything is possible in today’s game. They are playing from home but they are also struggling a little bit and I think we can utilise that and bring our sorrowful chapter to an end,” he added.

“Goals have started coming but our remaining task is now to see how we can defend well and get the wins falling in.”

Simeon Masaba

According to the gaffer, they have tried to correct mistakes and will only rally his troops to defend better.

Since the restart of the campaign, the oil manufacturers have played nine games, among which they have held five draws and lost four games.

However, the Purple Sharks have played 10 games in the second round. In those, they have registered six losses, three draws and a win.

BUL lie seventh on the log with 32 points while Wakiso Giants are eighth with a point less having played a game more.

Last year’s FUFA Women Super League champions She Corporate and Olila High School have been relegated to the lower tier.

Zian Ithungu and Winnie Nabbale put the Sharks ahead in the opening 27 minutes of the game.

It was a perfect start to the duel and it looked like She Corporate would finish the campaign with a perfect result after they had a season to forget.

However, in the 73rd minute, Agnes Nabukenya pulled one back for Kawempe Muslim who had wasted a number of glorious chances earlier in the game.

Seven minutes later, Suzan Nalukoda leveled matters to silence the fans of the Nakawa-based side.

Elsewhere, Resty Nanziri scored late to cancel Joweria Nagadya’s early strike as Lady Doves shared spoils with Kampala Queens at IUIU, Kabojja.

After the full-time whistle, Kampala Queens were crowned the fifth-time FWSL champions with 47 points gathered from 18 games.

The Queens of Soccer took over the crown from She Corporates with whom they levelled points but had fewer goals in last year’s campaign.

KCCA came in this duel on top of the table with 37 points and only needed to avoid defeat so that they can claim all bragging rights.

City Oilers were so close to registering their first BAL win but fell short to Al Ahly in the Basketball Africa League on Saturday.

The Oilers fought from down 33 points but came short of finishing the assignment by only a basket.

It was the second loss of the eight-time NBL champion who was handed a false start by Angola’s Petro de Luanda.

It was a live wire end to the game as the final play of the game nearly guided Mande Juruni’s charges past hosts Al Ahly.

The Oilers played the fourth quarter like their lives were dependent on it. They managed to score 34 points of the 70 collected in 40 minutes.

Falando Jones would have won the entertaining duel but was denied a clear sight to the hoop hence setting up Titus Lual who failed to beat the buzzer.

This was after tactician Juruni called a time-out to design the downfall of the Egyptian side with just two seconds but the attack yielded no fruit.

At full-time, there was no celebration from either side as City Oilers covered their faces in disappointment while Ah Ahly still contemplated how they survived the scare.

The Oilers will feel undone with their low conversion rate. They only scored 11 of 21 attempts on the free line. While only seven of the 24 three-point attempts fell.

Germaine Roebuck Jr topped Uganda’s scoring chart with 28 points as Falando and James Justice Jr added 15 and 11 respectively.

Next on the menu for City Oilers is SLAC on Tuesday as they seek their maiden win at the grand continental stage.
