Julius Poloto’s strike was the difference as KCCA Football Club went past Gaddafi Football Club in a 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Kakindu Stadium.

The winger came off the bench to ensure Jackson Mayanja’s reign at KCCA remains.

Allan Okello had a chance to give the visitors a lead but Gaddafi’s custodian Joel Mutakubwa pulled off a stunning save after 10 minutes.

Six minutes later, Muhammad Shaban found the back of the net but the assistant referee raised the flag for offside.

Bakali Magumba’s clearance nearly went into his goal as he tried to deal with Okello’s delivery.

The hosts came so close as Joel Madondo’s effort rattled the frame as the visitors escaped the scare.

In the 73rd minute, Poloto broke the deadlock. The winger was set up by Saidi Mayanja before he shot hard into the net.

The victory keeps the Kasasiro Boys in the second position on the log with 44 points, two behind log leaders SC Villa who have played two games more.

Gaddafi remains 10th on the log with 29 points gathered from 23 matches.

Next on the menu for KCCA is Onduparaka on Tuesday, April 2 while Gaddafi will make a trip to Kitende to play Vipers on the same day.

KCCA Football Club are seeking back-to-back wins as they make a trip to Jinja to face Gaddafi at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja today.

It will be the second game for new tactician Jackson “Mia Mia” Mayanja who started his reign with a 4-1 win over SC Villa at the MTN Omondi Stadium.

The victory also marked the end of the four-game winless run creating hope for the KCCA faithful that they can still clinch the title of the ongoing season.

“Each game now is like a final, if we want to be champions, we must win each game that we play,” Mayanja told the club media before adding; “My major target is to win this trophy and regain the lost hope to everyone attached to the club.”

“We are prepared as a team. The players have listened to us and are now catching up. Players should know the demands of the manager and adapt to them,” he stressed.

Mayanja underlined the need to attack with vigour to pick maximum points. “We need to go all out and pick three points because we have no other assignment apart from winning our games and that’s all.”

“I respect Wasswa Bbosa (Gaddafi’s head coach), I have seen him, for now, quite a while and we know each other very well. So it will be relatively a hard game but all in all, we have to win.”

The Kasasiro Boys will miss the services of their lethal forward Rogers Mato due to injury but Mayanja notes the team has many players and they will find a direct replacement.

“First of all, we have an injury setback for Mato. I did not want to push him because he got a muscle strain so that one is already out. But have a replacement because I trust all the players here.”

The Lugogo-based beat Gaddafi 2-1 in the first leg though the Army Boys won the last duel between the two sides that was played in their fortress.

Third-placed Vipers will make a short trip to face log leaders SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku today.

Vipers gaffer Alex Isabirye anticipates a tough duel with the wounded Buffalo in Villa having lost twice on a bounce.

“They are on top of the table and they are home so that game will not be easy at all,” Isabirye told the club media.

“They have good coaches and good players who can create a tough opposition any day. So it will be a difficult game,” he added.

Jackson Magera’s troops had an excellent start to the second round of the ongoing campaign, they won seven straight games after a draw in the opener but their form has fallen after losing twice to Arua Hill and KCCA.

Isabirye believes they have equally prepared well and have enough to claim maximum points.

“We have equally prepared well and shall go there too and put up a good performance because we need those three points.”

Vipers had a slow start to the year that saw a change of gaffers but the Kitende-based side is slowly finding a rhythm and collecting results.

“Both teams have good players, so it will go down to who fights for it the most,” he concluded.

In the reverse fixture, Vipers registered a 2-0 victory against Villa while the last time they met at the latter’s home it was a goalless draw.

Onduparaka FC fought tooth and nail to come from down twice to share spoils with Arua Hill in the West Nile derby at Green Light Stadium today.

The Caterpillars bagged a point late at home in a game many thought had gone to their bitter rival Arua Hill.

In the 17th minute, Rashid Toha opened the scoring through a glancing header off Gadafi Wahab’s delivery hence lighting up the stadium.

Five minutes later, Rashid Yakini restored parity with a shot to the roof of the net. Matters were levelled after Arua Hill failed to deal with William Gama’s delivery.

Moments later, Onduparaka had a chance to take the lead but Rogers Omedwa made a fingertip save to palm away Rashid Okocha’s effort from the corner kick.

The home fans were on their feet thinking Gama had given them the lead but the jubilations were cut short after the referee made an offside call.

Onduparaka continued to search for the lead as the crowd pumped them but the first stanza ended 1-1 leaving either side with hope to finish it later.

In the 71st minute, Isaac Ogwang gave the visitors a slim edge after capitalising from the custodian’s howler where he fumbled with Wahab’s free kick.

Defender-cum-striker Emmanuel Oketch was the saviour as he levelled matters in added time. His effort bounced off the frame but he followed it and buried it away into an empty net after beating Omedwa

The point takes Arua Hill level with URA FC at 34 points in the fifth position while Onduparaka is bottom of the log with 14 points gathered from 23 games.

According to Okello, it’s not all about City Oilers as a club but more about representing Uganda and doing what it takes to see that lift the black-yellow-red flag as high as possible.

“We call upon all Ugandans to rally behind the team and push the boys. We are here to support the represent Uganda, We are here to represent 256 so I call everyone to come on board and help us achieve the set target, he concluded.

Bright Stars head coach Asaph Mwebaze was left disappointed due to the lack of character from his troops as they shared spoils with Express FC.

Bright Stars were held by the Red Eagles in a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreational Grounds, Wakiso.

“We were capable of taking all maximum points but unfortunately we got only one. We did not do enough and lacked the character to get the second goal and seal off the duel,” Mwebaze revealed to the club media after the final whistle.

“We were on top of the game but we allowed them back and killed the rhythm after conceding which made it hard for us to pick something positive out of the duel,” he added.

Ibrahim Kasinde gave Bright Stars the lead in the 18th minute but Allan Kayiwa leveled in the second half to bring back Express in the mix.

Mwebaze added that there are a number of positives to pick and build from that in the next game they are to play away from home.

“We left with a point and shift attention to the next game. Going forward the performance was not bad the boys played well but we only need to tighten up a few arrears that we let go.”

“We can continue with what we are doing and it will help us get better hence picking a positive result.”

According to the soft-spoken gaffer, as the technical team they have to do all it takes to see that they keep the players mentally at their best so that they can face the busy fixture.

“The games are coming one after the other in a short time but these are the demands of top-flight football, we have to make sure we rest and prepare for the game on Friday in Jinja,” he concluded.

Asubo Gafford Ladies held Makerere University WFC in a 1-1 draw in the FUFA Women Super League at Kampala Quality Ground today morning.

Kamiyati Naigaga was heroic for Asubo Gafford as her deflected effort found the back of the net to keep their chances of surviving alive.

Makerere University took the lead through Sharon Namatovu to earn all bragging rights that lived till the last minute of the game.

The point earned keeps Asubo in the fight for survival. They will have a task to pick a victory in their last game of the league against Rines SS WFC who have a better goal difference but the same points.

The stalemate takes UCU to 22 points in the fourth position while Olila sits at the bottom of the 10-team log with 17 points.

FUFA’s disciplinary panel has slapped FUFA Big League side Kyetume with a fine of UGX 1,000,000 as a violation of Article 31 of the federation’s Competitions Rules and Regulations.

The development came as a result of hooliganism witnessed during the game against Kitara FC on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Nakisunga Saza Ground, Mukono.

The game ended earlier than it would after a section of home fans sparked off in denial of a late goal to Kitara that turned the score to 2-1.

Players from either side were told to leave the pitch for safety and the centre referee as well abandoned the game as Police tried to restore peace.

“A cash fine of UGX 1M and should be paid by Tuesday, May 2,” the sanction from FUFA partly reads before adding; “A four-match suspension for each of two Kyetume FC players Solomon Opolot and Patrick Mubiru.”

“Should the club and the players fail to heed to the sanction above, the CDP shall be constrained to take stringent disciplinary measures against them,” it affirmed.

Vipers SC edged Arua Hill in a 1-0 victory in the Uganda Premier League at Barifa Stadium on Tuesday.

It was the fourth win of Alex Musongora Isabirye’s troops who have not been good travellers in the ongoing season.

It was a nail-biter as the losing side came close a number of times with a goal scored but ruled out for offside.

The victory returns Vipers to winning ways after sharing spoils in a 1-1 draw against URA in their last game while Arua Hill’s loss brings an end to their winning run after picking victories in their last two games.

In the second minute, Abubakar Lawal put the visitors ahead with a half-volley through the legs of Gibson Adinho before beating Arua Hill custodian Rogers Omedwa.

The Nigerian was set up by right-back Ashraf Mandela after a link-up play with Milton Karisa.

Twenty-five minutes later, Arua Hill SC nearly leveled matters through captain Rashid Toha but his freekick was palmed out by custodian Fabien Mutombora for a corner kick.

With five minutes to end the first stanza, Lawal thought he had doubled Vipers’ lead but the assistant referee raised the flag in concern of an offside in the buildup to the goal.

Both sides returned for the second half more energized to stage a stellar show.

Pacy forward Karisa came close with a low hard shoot but Omedwa was in the right place to punch it away.

The dying minutes were heated up as Arua Hill kept knocking on the door as they forced Vipers to be on the receiving end but the visitors stood tall and firm to prevent any leakage in their backline.

In added time, Karisa nearly made it two but his header off Disan Galiwango’s cross bounced off the frame.

The victory leaves Vipers SC in the third position with 39 points while Arua Hill SC are fifth on the log with 33.

In their next game, Vipers SC will play SC Villa on Saturday, April 29 away from home while Arua Hill will visit Onduparaka on Friday.
