Uganda Golf Club Lady Captain announced the hosting of the UGC Lady Captain’s Prize scheduled for Saturday, March 15 at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.
The Uganda Golf Club Ladies Section held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, February 27th, marking the end of the term for the Lady Captain and her team.
Over 160 are expected to take the course for the one-day tournament.
Lady Captain’s Prize, an event held at the end of each UGC Lady Captain’s term, will be overseen by Wendy Angudeyo, who served two terms as Lady Captain and will be handing over to the new executive at the 19th hole.
“I am honoured to have served as UGC Lady Captain for two years. It has been tough, but I enjoyed every moment. I am grateful to the outgoing team for all the work they put in to make my tenure a success,” she noted.
“It is your commitment that made this enjoyable, and we shared all our successes together. I wish the new executive all the best,” added Wendy Angudeyo, the outgoing UGC Lady Captain.
The new executive comprises Gloria Mbaguta (Lady Captain), Sarah Nduhukire (Vice Lady Captain), Catherine Wabomba (Secretary), and Suzan Tashobya (Treasurer).
The 2025 East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games concluded on Friday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with Kenya emerging as the dominant force.
Kenyan teams claimed multiple trophies across various disciplines, including football, athletics, tug-of-war, darts, pool, Scrabble, and the folk song and dance competition.
Uganda, the host nation, secured two trophies in netball and volleyball, putting up a respectable performance.
Rev. Canon Dr. Duncas Mugumya commended all participants for their sportsmanship and the spirit of unity displayed throughout the games.
“I thank all the players who took part in these games. At the Ministry of Education and Sports, we aim to develop a well-rounded individual,” he stated.
He also praised the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) for its hospitality in accommodating visitors from various cities across the region.
“It brings us great joy to host such a large number of participants. We appreciate KCCA for welcoming and taking care of all our visitors,” he added.
In the final match of the tournament, Kenya’s KICOSA edged out KCCA (Uganda) 2-1 to win the men’s football title.

CAVB Zone V Championship | Result
KCB Nkumba Volleyball Club secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ndejje University in an interesting CAVB Zone V Championship encounter at Old Kampala Indoor Arena on Friday.
The thrilling women’s encounter saw Nkumba snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a match that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Nkumba started strong, narrowly taking the first set 25-23. However, Ndejje responded emphatically in the second, racing to an early 6-1 lead before sealing the set 25-20.
The momentum remained with Ndejje in the third set, where they limited Nkumba to just 15 points, taking a 2-1 overall lead in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
However, Nkumba regrouped and fought back in the fourth set, edging Ndejje 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
With everything on the line, Nkumba delivered a dominant performance, restricting Ndejje to only 10 points and sealing a well-earned victory.
This marked Nkumba’s second win of the campaign, following their triumph over Tanzania’s Prison, while Ndejje suffered their second consecutive defeat, having fallen to Pipeline in their opening match.
CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship | Result
Rwanda’s Police Volleyball Club secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Nemostars in the CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship match at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Thursday.
The defending champions showcased their dominance, outclassing Nemostars in a well-orchestrated performance.
Police set the tone early, limiting Nemostars to just 15 points in the opening set.
Nemostars struggled with their serves, giving away six crucial points from service errors, making it easier for Police to capitalize.
Though the home side improved their service game in the second set though they failed to contain Matheus Bettim’s powerful attacks and eventually lost by five points.
In the final set, George Aporu attempted to break through Police’s solid defence but the Rwandan side was well-prepared to neutralize the experienced receiver-attacker.
On the second day of the championship, Nemostars will face Burundi’s Rukinzo while Police will take on Jeshi Stars.
CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship | Result
Pipeline registered a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Ndejje University ladies in the CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The defending champions secured the victory without igniting the second gear despite Ndejje’s threat on attack.
Pipeline came out of the blocks early running over Ndejje in the first set by nine points (25-16).
In the second set, Ndejje greatly improved, reducing their receiving errors, but this was not enough to overcome their five-point deficit at the end of the period.
In the final set, the match was a see-saw affair. Pipeline was asked a few questions, but they overcame them with a two-point advantage.
Celestine Nafula Nyogesa, Pipeline’s libero was outstanding on the day creating calmness on the floor whenever Ndejje gained momentum.
Uganda’s Silverbacks qualified for a fourth straight AfroBasket.
The 16-team field for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket including Silverbacks was confirmed following the conclusion of the qualifiers on Sunday, February 23.
Qualification Path
The qualifiers were played through three (3) tournaments at the end of which the three (3) highest-ranked teams in each group qualified for the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 finals, which will take place from 12 to 24 August 2024 in Angola.
Since Angola, the host of FIBA AfroBasket 2025, was among the top three teams in AfroBasket Qualifiers Group E, the best fourth-placed team across the five groups—based on the Official Basketball Rules— which was Uganda qualified.
Uganda finished the qualifiers with a 2-4 record through the qualifiers. The Silverbacks picked the win against Cape Verde on Friday but lost the subsequent games to Nigeria and Libya.
The full list of teams qualified for the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket
Uganda will host the Zone V Volleyball Club Championship from Wednesday, February 26, to Tuesday, March 4.
The championship is set to take place at the Lugogo Indoor Arena and the Old Kampala Sports Arena.
This was confirmed during a press conference meeting at the Uganda Olympic Committee head office in Lugogo.
Speaking to the press, the local organising committee chairperson Joseph Odong revealed that the venues have been confirmed and they will soon be closing entries.
“The preparations to have a tranquil Zone V Volleyball Club Championship are in high gear. We have confirmed two avenues that will be used (Lugogo Arena and Old Kampala Arena),” he stated.
“Sofar, twenty clubs have confirmed to take part and we shall be closing entries by Friday, February 21, 2025, ahead of the technical committee meeting,” he added.
The Uganda Volleyball Federation and Zone V president Sadiq Nasiwu promised a successful event and lauded all the participating countries.
Rwanda National Police (Men) and Kenya Pipeline Corporation (Women) are the defending champions of the previous Zone V championship.
Esther Aganyira topped the second tournament of the MTN Monthly Tee at Entebbe Golf Club on Saturday.
Playing off Handicap 36, Aganyira returned a nett score of 64 to record her best performance in the one-day tournament.
Meanwhile, Peace Hellen topped the ladies category with 66 nett and assumed the leaderboard of the Order of Merit after two rounds. Nice Janda played her best round of the year returning 67 nett good enough to take the runners-up spot.
In the men’s category, Paul Nuwagaba topped Group A with 69 nett with Lino Anguzi taking second place with 71 on countback.
Ugandan pro golfer Willy Deus Kitata will play at the 2025 Magical Kenya Open after topping the qualifiers played at Vetlab Sports Club in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday.
The US-based golfer scored 149 gross (+5) in the two rounds (36 Holes) played on the same day to emerge victorious in a crop that had other Ugandans, Nigerians, Rwandese and Malawians.
Kitata played 4-over-76 in round one with a birdie on the par-4 hole 10. He had 13 par scores on holes 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18), two bogies (on holes 13 and 14) as well as a single double bogie on par-4 hole 3.
His second round in the afternoon was a much better session as he returned 1-over 73 including two birdies (on holes 1 and 12), 13 pars (4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18) and three bogies (on holes 2, 3 and 8).
Kitata joins amateur Joseph Cwinya-ai at the DP World Tour championship that is scheduled to tee off on Thursday, 20th February and climax by 23rd February at the Muthaiga Golf Club in the Kenyan caapital Nairobi.
Bukooli Chiefdom rider Tiffu Luganda and Kigulu’s John Odoto crossed the finish line first in the finale of the Busoga Kingdom Cycling Championship on Saturday.
Luganda won the Tippa (Gaali Ensoga) category while Odoto topped the Mountain Sports Bike group.
Farmer Shafik from Bunha and Dominic Mugoda of Butembe Chiefdoms finished second and third respectively in the Tippa category with Hussein Kigenyi (Bunha) and Magidu Kawa (Kigulu) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the Mountain Sports Bikes category, Mensuramu Magemeso, representing Luuka Chiefdom, finished second and Byansi Rogers (Bugabula) also made it to the podium in third.
Musilimu Kiwanuka of Luuka Chiefdom finished fourth position followed by Meni Kakaire of Bunha in fifth.
A total of 44 riders in the two categories participated in the finale, with the top five in each being rewarded. The two winners received new motorcycles (CT 125 HD).
The second-place winners received a cash prize of 2 million Ugandan shillings. Third-place finishers pocketed 1 million shillings, fourth-place winners 500,000 shillings, and fifth-place finishers 300,000 shillings.
The 175 km race, featuring the best cyclists from the Busoga Chiefdoms, began at 8:00 AM at the iconic Busoga Kingdom Headquarters.
Riders braved the beautiful but challenging sceneries of; Bugembe, Kakira, Magamaga, and Musita before reaching Iganga Town and returning to the Kingdom Headquarters.
