Runner David Emong won Uganda a bronze medal in the Men’s 1500m finals T46 at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics on Saturday.
David ran a personal best of 3:53.51 to cross the finish line behind Russia’s Alexander Yaremchuk who won the gold in 3:52:08.
The silver went to Bulgaria’s Hristiyan Stoyanov who posted 3:52.63.
The medal was David’s second at the Paralympics after claiming silver in 2016 Rio. The silverware now makes him Uganda’s most decorated Paralympian in the modern era.
The bronze follows gold he won at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships, London.
Impairment
Emong broke his left arm while at school in 2005 after being assaulted by other students. He did not receive medical treatment for the injury, which resulted in limited use of the limb.
He became the first athlete representing Uganda to win a medal at the Paralympic Games when he claimed silver in the T46 1500m at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
