Uganda Premier League side Lugazi has completed the signing of forward Jumah Lutakome from Paidha Black Angels.
Lutakome joins the top-tier side on a one-year employment contract. The announcement was made today Thursday, January 30, 2025.
“It is with great pride that we announce the signing of striker Lutakome from Paidha Black Angels,” the statement partly reads.
Lutakome is excited to represent a top-tier side and can’t wait to get started.
“It is a great opportunity for me to play in the Uganda Premier League. When I heard of the interest from Lugazi FC, I never thought twice. It has always been my dream to play for a big team,” he said.
“I can’t wait to get started, enjoy the journey and help my team in any way I can. The strong competition here has not scared me. I believe I can be the best player in my position, and with time, I will prove that to everyone,” he added.
He becomes Lugazi’s fifth signing of the mid-season transfer window ahead of the highly anticipated 2024/25 UPL second round.
Lugazi FC lies in 13th position with 14 points after 15 games of the UPL first round.
Uganda Premier League side Lugazi has signed defender Joseph Othieno on a three-year employment.
Othieno has joined the Leaders switching from Burundian Moso Sugar FC ahead of the UPL second round.
Othieno becomes the third signing of Lugazi following the arrival of Hussein Ssenoga and Shafiq Avemah.
“I was born and grew up in Lugazi I think it is the right time to come back home and pick up myself,” the club’s website quoted Othieno.
“I believe if one works hard, he achieves and I am here to exactly do that,” he added.
Othieno has had great growth in his football career after helping Buddo SS win the national championship in 2009 and captaining Buwekula to the 2012 Masaza Cup finals.
He has also played for Victoria University, Kira Young, UPDF FC, Ndejje University, Musongati FC and Buja City.

The Uganda Premier League (UPL) second-round fixture has been released today, Friday, January 24, 2025.
According to the UPL secretariat the 2024-25 season second round is set to get underway on Tuesday, February 11.
The announcement was made by UPL manager Paul Kabaikaramu via a morning show on FUFA TV.
“We are happy to announce the second round of the UPL returns on Tuesday, February 11,” Kabaikaramu stated.
The second round is set to serve exciting games just like it was in the first rounds as fans were entertained on different playgrounds.
Vipers concluded the first round on top of the log with 34 points collected in 15 games played.
Vipers will kickstart the second round with a home fixture as they host URA at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in a night fixture.
Uganda Premier League side has completed the signing of youngster Jimmy Logoro in the ongoing transfer window.
Logoro is a student of Kings College Buddo who put up a stunning show in the FUFA TV Cup that was played last year.
Speaking about the young prospect, Express head coach Badru Kaddu expressed his confidence in Logoro but added that he is a work in progress.
“We have identified a potentially good talent with exceptional skills and our role is to turn him into a good player,” Kaddu shared.
Reports indicate that the Red Eagles have also improved their squad with the acquisition of pacy forward Muhammad Kagawa Ssenoga.
Though Dauson Mafumu is the only confirmed departure and the team management will need to feel the void in the backline.
Express remains third on the log with 25 points, nine below log leaders Vipers SC after the end of the first round.
Exciting youngster Alvin Birungi has extended his stay at Lugazi after putting pen to a five-year employment contract.
The contract is meant to keep him at the club until the end of the 2029/30 campaign.
The development was confirmed via the club’s official website on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
“Winger Birungi Alvin Twiine has signed a new 5-year contract with Lugazi,” the statement partly reads.
Birungi joined Lugazi in September 2023 as a teenager but the forward has improved day by day meeting the demands of top-tier football.
He has so far made two assists in nine games played.
In the first round of the current campaign, Lugazi finished with 14 points from 15 matches.
Hussein Ssenoga has joined Lugazi on a one-year employment contract in the ongoing transfer window.
The transfer has been confirmed via the club’s official website today Monday, January 20, 2025.
“We (Lugazi) announce the signing of attacking midfielder Hussein Ssenoga from Buganda regional side Free Stars FC,” the statement partly reads.
Upon putting pen on paper, Ssenoga expressed his excitement about joining Lugazi FC.
“I really feel excited and grateful to have joined this club,” Ssenoga said.
“I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this team,” he added.
The attacking midfielder started his career in 2011scoring six goals, making two assists in 28 appearances.
He recently played for Express in 2022 and played for the Red Eagles for two years before suffering an injury.
Uganda Premier League side Mbale Heroes have parted ways with head coach Asaph Mwebaze.
Mbale Heroes confirmed the gaffer’s departure in a document released on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
“We wish to inform you that Mbale Heroes Football Club has mutually agreed to terminate the contract with the head coach, Asaph Mwebaze,” the document partly reads.
This comes after the club suspended the gaffer for 28 days alleging misconduct and unethical behaviour.
The development brings an end to Mwebaze’s second stint at the club. The gaffer greatly impacted the journey of Mbale Heroes’ promotion to the top tier.
According to the club’s statement, they are actively seeking a head coach as Mubarak Wamboya handles the team on interim basis.
KCCA FC has been penalized for fielding an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito, in their Uganda Premier League (UPL) match against Mbarara City.
As a result, the FUFA Disciplinary Panel has ruled that KCCA must forfeit the game.
Kizito, a right-back, played in the match on January 7, 2025, at Kakyeka Stadium, where KCCA secured a 2-0 victory.
However, the panel determined that he was ineligible to feature in the game, having accumulated three yellow cards, which should have sidelined him under FUFA Competition Rules.
“The FUFA Disciplinary Panel has sanctioned KCCA FC for violating FUFA Competition Rules and Regulations by fielding an ineligible player, Gavin Kizito. As a result, KCCA loses the match by forfeiture, and Mbarara City is awarded three points and three goals,” the statement partly reads.
In addition, the FUFA Referees Disciplinary Panel has suspended referee William Oloya from officiating football matches for six months with immediate effect.
Following this ruling, KCCA has dropped to fourth place in the league standings with 24 points, now trailing log leaders Vipers SC by ten points.
Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC have intensified negotiations with in-form forward Isaac Ogwang.
Ogwang has been impressive this season, scoring six goals in 15 matches for Police FC.
His outstanding performances have not only contributed significantly to his club but have also earned him a call-up to the national team.
With only six months remaining on his contract, the 23-year-old forward has attracted interest from Vipers SC, KCCA, and URA. However, Vipers are currently leading the race for his signature.
The Venoms are reportedly willing to buy out the remainder of his contract to secure his services during the January transfer window.
After the first round of the season, Vipers sit atop the league table with 34 points from 15 matches.
Uganda Cranes forwards Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka have completed their transfer to Rwandan football club APR.
The exciting duo has penned a two-year employment contract that will keep them at the club until 2027.
Before being unveiled, the duo attended APR’s game as they took on Marine FC at the Umuganda Stadium in Rwanda.
Both played in the game as Kitara beat SC Villa in a 1-0 dramatic victory at Royals Park, Butema on Tuesday.
The two forwards will be joining their counterpart Taddeo Lwanga who also plays for the Army side.
Omedi and Kiwanuka are both part of the 36-man Uganda Cranes provisional squad summoned ahead of the 2024 CHAN.
