Ssaza Ssingo has appointed Edward Golola as the new head coach ahead of the forthcoming 2024 Buganda Masaza Cup.

The Two time Buganda Masaza Cup winners Ssingo have taken on experienced Golola as Simon Ddunga’s replacement who recently joined Ssaza Buddu.

Golola’s technical bench has been boosted by Pius Ngabo and Frank Kimezze who will assume the assistant coach roles.

Reagan Lule will also join the technical setup as the goalkeeping coach.

Ssingo will be seeking for the third title having won their previous two in 2015 and 2018.

In 2013, Golola was Mawokota’s head coach as they beat Singo 1-0 in the Masaza Cup final played at Nakivubo Stadium.

Bulemeezi registered a 1-0 narrow victory against Gomba in the Masaza Cup Finals at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

Johnson Ssenyonga’s lonely goal was the difference between the two sides in the tight encounter.

It was an end-to-end encounter as either side shared a fair percentage of possession.

Ivan Kawooya nearly gave Bulemeezi the lead but failed to convert Herbert Asiimwe’s delivery after a quick transition.

Halfway into the first stanza, Allan Oryiwoth spoilt Gomba’s glorious chance after remaining with a goalkeeper to beat.

After the halftime break, Bulemeezi returned a stronger side making quicker attacks like a team on a mission.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Ssenyonga’s well-taken strike from a long-range beat Gomba custodian Joseph Lubega to place Bulemeezi in the driving seat.

John Ssenyonga kept Gomba in reach after clearing Patrick Kagulire’s effort off the goalline.

Gomba through in the kitchen sink as they searched for an equaliser but Bulemeezi’s backline stood tall and firm.

Bulemeezi walked away with 12 million while Gomba took home nine million as a token.

2023 Buganda Masaza Cup | Semifinal Results

Gomba is set to play Bulemeezi in the final of the 2023 Buganda Masaza Cup on Saturday, October 28.

The duo confirmed its spots in the final after winning the two-legged semifinal affair.

Gomba Lions beat Buddu 1-0 in a tight contest at Masaka Recreation Stadium on Monday.

In a game that was highly attended, both sides struggled to find the target and hence fired blanks in the first 45 minutes.

Just as the second stanza got underway, Kenneth Kimera gave Gomba the lead through a well-weighed effort that silenced the home crowd and sent the visitors ablaze.

The victory meant Gomba beat Buddu home and away to send a warning to Bulemeezi. Gomba has so far lifted five titles in 2004, 2009, 2017, and later 2020.

On the other hand, Bulemeezi manoeuvred past Mawokota thanks to a successful penalty shootout.

The two sides played to a goalless draw at Kasana Playground, Luwero on Monday.

Bulemeezi went on to register a 4-2 victory from the post-match penalties to ascend to the finals.

This was the second time in the ongoing tournament that Bulemeezi was going to the next level thanks to penalties.

After clinching the title in 2012 and 2019, Bulemeezi will be on a hurt for the third cup.
