CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers | Result
Kawempe Muslim secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Burundi’s PVP Buyenzi in their first game of CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.
Agnes Nabukenya was on the target twice as Kawempe Muslim registered a comfortable victory, thus kickstarting their continental journey on a positive.
The FUFA Women Super League champions Kawempe Muslim’s start was delayed due to a heavy downpour at Abebe Bekila Stadium, Ethiopia on Monday, August 19.
Despite the unplayable surface, Nabukenya broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute of the game. The forward was quick tocapitalise on a rebound as Buyenzi’s backline delayed to clear their lines.
As the two teams were still in the dressing rooms for the half time break, the heavens opened once again and restart was delayed for some minutes.
At the top of the hour, Nabukenya’s stunning freekick doubled Kawempe Muslim’s lead against Buyenzi.
Kawempe Muslim are in group B alongside Simba Queens (Tanzania), FAD (Djibouti) and PVP Buyenzi (Burundi).
Kawempe Muslim will return to action on Wednesday against Simba Queens before they take on FAD on Friday.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) missed out on the continental ticket after losing its second final of the CAF Women Champions League Zonal Qualifiers.
CBE was edged by Tanzania’s JKT Queens 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless draw, missing out on the CECAFA Zonal title.
Since its inauguration, CBE was playing its second finals after losing to Kenya’s Vihiga Queens in 2021.
Even though JKT Queens were playing their first tournament, they held their nerves and concluded the assignment in style.
On their way to the finals, they won all their games and conceded only one goal in all the games played in the championship.
The two sides played to a goalless draw in normal time, there was no goal witnessed in extra time before they were sent at the 12-yard mark.
In normal time, CBE was the better side of the two creating a number of chances more so in the second stanza but JKT’s goalkeeper Najat Abasi dealt with the threat.
The victory sends JKT onto the continental stage. It will be the second Tanzanian club to play in the Champions League after Simba Queens.
In the classification game, debutants Buja Queens from Burundi beat former champions Vihiga Queens 1-0 to take home bronze.
Buja Queens registered a 2-1 narrow victory against FAD FC in the last group game of the ongoing CAF Champions League Qualifiers on Thursday.
It was an emotional day at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru as some teams jubilated while others supported their faces by the palm.
It was a tight game between the two sides as Djibouti’s FAD FC looked for their first point while Buja badly wanted a victory to go further.
Ruth Ingosu fired Buja Queens ahead breaking down a strong and tight backline of FAD FC.
Five minutes later, FAD continued to frustrate Buja as they emphatically equalised through Nadia Nour to create a tense atmosphere.
However, with three minutes left on the clock, Teopista Situma scored a golden goal that sent Buja into the final four.
In the other game, CBE easily went past Yei Joint Stars in a 4-0 victory to finish on top of Group A.
Ariet Odong, Loza Abera, Senayt Bogale and Mesay Temsegen were on the score sheet to give the Ethiopians a well-deserved victory.
The results today confirm the hosts Kampala Queens will not be part of the semifinals as their road comes to an end.
The duo will join Vihiga Queens and JKT Queens which qualified from Group B.
The Semifinals will be played on Sunday as CBE FC will face Vihiga Queens while Buja Queens will play JKT Queens.
Fazila Ikwaput scored five as Kampala Queens registered a 6-1 victory against FAD in the CAF Champions League zonal qualifiers at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday.
The National Women champions Kampala Queens returned to winning ways after playing to a one-all draw against CBE FC in the previous game.
Six minutes into the game, Ikwaput got her name onto the scoring sheet to open the scoring party at Njeru.
Kampala’s shirt-nine completed a brace through a thunderous free-kick before she sealed her second hat trick of the tournament in the 21st minute of the game.
The Queens of Soccer continued to enjoy the evening with a brilliant display as they pegged FAD’s defence back.
Eight minutes into the second stanza, Rahma Moustapha Aden found her side a consolation goal to try and give FAD hope going forward.
But Elizabeth Nakigozi regained Kampala Queens’ three-goal lead as he finished from a well-crafted team attack.
Ikwaput later added two goals to complete her quinary and also send her name on top of the goal scorers’ sheet of the tournament.

Buja Queens edged Yei Joint Stars in a 1-0 victory to enlighten their route to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League zonal qualifiers at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday.
Asha Jafari’s goal was the only difference between the two sides that were on a hunt for a victory to make it six points.
Buja Queens looked the better side from the time the centre referee kickstarted the game but Yei Joint seemed a hard rock to break.
In the 35th minute, Buja nearly took the lead through Teopista Situma after she went past her marker and tried to curl the ball home in fashion but her effort went wide by inches.
As the first stanza was looming, Jeska Simaya set up Jafari who released a hard shot into the roof of the net and place her side in the driving seat.
Yei Joint Stars nearly equalised through Justine Kirega after meeting Mary Dawa’s long pass but the resultant shot hit the frame before it went out.
With two minutes to the end of the game, Situma’s effort bounced off the bar before Yei Joint Stars cleared their line.
The victory ensured Buja Queens go to six points one behind Kampala Queens who have played all their games now.
In the next game, Buja will play FAD FC in their last group game. This one will be an easy test for the Burundian side FAD FC has lost all its games.
Yei Joint Stars picked their maiden victory in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers after falling in the opening clash.
Yei Joint Stars registered a 2-0 victory against FAD FC in the ongoing Zoanal Qualifiers at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Friday.
The game started at a slow pace as both sides struggled to find the right rhythm needed for the game that attracted low numbers.
It was a clash of wounded buffaloes since none of the sides had picked a point in their earlier outings on the green turf.
In the 13th minute, there was a mix-up in FAD’s backline before the goalkeeper Soubane Ahmed Omar threw the ball into her own net.
From there onwards, FAD tried to get back into the game but their fitness levels were so low they failed to run after the slowest of passes.
As the first stanza was looming, Yei Stars nearly extended the lead but FAD’s backline teamed up to lay a very strong block.
Just like it was in the first half, the game’s tempo grew in the last ten minutes of the game as FAD looked for a leveller while Yei Joint Stars were keeping their lead intact.
With a minute to the final whistle, Eunice Kilega found the back of the net thus doubling Yei Joint Stars’s lead and awarding them golden three points.
The victory takes them to three points levelled with Buja Queens and Kampala Queens who are at three points too.
CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers
JKT Queens registered the second victory in as many games of the CAF Women Champions League Zonal Qualifiers to maintain positive momentum.
The Champions of Tanzania picked a 1-0 victory against Zanzibar’s New Generation in a game played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Wednesday.
The only but all-important goal was scored by Esther Mabanza to give JKT maximum points on the day.
The JKT Queens were the better side in the first stanza but failed to utilize their chances hence firing blanks by the end of the first 45 minutes.
Eleven minutes into the second stanza, Mabanza finally broke the deadlock to give JKT Queens a well-deserved lead after a long hunt.
It was a well-crafted goal since Mananza, hit the ball hard to guide it into the left bottom corner leaving New Generation’s goalkeeper Faraja Kimnola with no choice.
The result meant it was the second win for the JKT Queens having defeated AS Kigali 2-1 in their opening duel.
JKT will play Vihiga Queens of Kenya in their last game of Group B.
The top two sides of the group will go straight into the semifinals of the ongoing tournament where the ultimate victor will qualify for the Women CAF Champions League that will get underway in November later this year.

Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC thumped Forces Armmes Djiboutiennes (FAD) FC 8-0 in demolishing victory.
It was the second victory for the Ethiopian side in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Tuesday.
Senaf Denise nearly put CBE FC ahead but the FAD FC goalkeeper was equal to the challenge to deny the forward a goal-bound chance in the 15th minute.
Fifteen minutes later, Senaf finally guided the ball into the net to open the goal-scoring party on the green turf before Seneth Tadesse doubled the lead two minutes later.
In the last five minutes of the first stanza, Getnate Nardos and captain Loza Abera widened the lead after scoring in the 42nd and 43rd minutes respectively.
The centre referee sent both sides into the long break while CBE had a whooping lead by four goals to nil.
Eight minutes into the second stanza, Areseget Birra scored the fifth after curling home into the top right corner capitalising on Abera’s delivery.
Seneth found herself in the perfect place to tap home off a rebound, it was the second for the forward and the sixth for the team.
Second-half substitute, Harriet Odong beat her marker before she released a powerful effort thus making it seven.
In the last minute of the game, Odong tapped into an empty hitting the last nail into FAD’s coffin who looked so poor all through the game.
The cricket score victory means CBE have six points hence leading Group A after Matchday Two.

Margret Kunihira tried her luck from a distance with a powerful effort but he failed to find the target in the eighth minute.
In the 21st minute, Topister Sifuma effortlessly nodded home Elizabeth Wambui’s lofted cross thus placing Buja Queens into the lead.
Six minutes later Shakira Nyinagahira cut back in front of the goal searching for Hasifa Nassuna but Buja’s Emeliana Isaya cleared her line.
Kampala Queens goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro gave away the ball but Wambui failed to find the target with an empty at her disposal.
Right at the start of the second half, Catherine Nagadya forced Buja Queen’s custodian Monica Karambu into a save for Kampala Queens’ corner kick.
Karambu was at it again as he palmed away Hassifa Nassuna’s venomous shot. Kampala Queens committed bodies as they continued to search for a leveller.
Seven minutes into the second stanza, Situma completed a brace. Nakaziro saved the forward’s earlier header but Situma scored on the rebound.
Shakira Nyinagahirwa nearly gave the hosts a consolation but her header hardly found the target even after beating the goalkeeper.
In the 83rd minute, Elizabeth Nakigozi halved Kampala Queens’ deficit with a powerful freekick that left goalkeeper Karambu stranded.
It will be the first loss for Samuel Nsanziro’s troops who won their opening game.

In the fourth minute, Alice Muderi delivered a lofted cross into the area searching for Tumaini Nafula but the forward arrived late missing a clear opportunity.
Eleven minutes later, Providence Mukalo witnessed her ball rattle off the frame after a long-range effort as Vihiga continued to push for an opener.
In the 19th minute, Vihiga Queens found themselves on the trailing side after the lack of communication in the back line.
Amina Ahmed made a quick run meeting a loose ball in the area, she rounded off Ruth Aturo before she guided the ball into an empty net to give New Generation the lead.
Winnie Babirye restored parity for Vihiga Queens after curling home the ball in a thrilling fashion with just six minutes to the end of the first half.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Vihiga Queens took the lead through Ruth Khasoka as her ball made a bounce before it went past custodian Faraja Kimlola into the net.
In the 71st minute Anitah Namata came close to extending Vihiga Queens lead but the custodian Kimlola turned up once again palming the ball away in a stellar fashion.
With nine minutes to end the game, Namata was fouled in the box and Martha Emedot converted from the 12-yard mark to tighten Vihiga’s position in the driving seat.
