FUFA Super 8 – Result
BUL clinched their second FUFA Super 8 title after seeing off Vipers SC in a tight penalty shootout on Sunday at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The Jinja-based side held Vipers in a goalless draw in normal time before the game was extended to extra time where both teams fired blanks.
It’s a great achievement for Abbey Kikomeko’s charges, who became the first team to win the title back-to-back.
It was a thrilling encounter, both sides came close in normal time, but the two custodians guarded their nets superbly.
On the other hand, the Vipers were denied a chance to clinch their second, which they had won earlier after beating KCCA at Wankulukuku.
Lawrence Tezikya scored BUL’s winning penalty while Enock Luyima missed from the 12-yard mark to ensure the Eastern Giants walked away with the title.
In the third-place playoff match, Uganda Cranes secured a 2-0 victory against Kitara thanks to Henry Kitegenyi’s brace.
Result: SC Villa 2-0 Maroons
SC Villa secured a 2-0 victory against Maroons in the FUFA Super Eight classification game on Saturday at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The victory against the Prison Wardens meant that SC Villa finished the tournament seventh while the former took the eighth position.
Francis Onekalit and Patrick Kakande were on target as SC Villa claimed bragging rights in a thrilling encounter.
Onekalit opened his account as he got to the end of Najib Yiga’s delivery to give Villa an early lead into the game.
Quick-footed forward, Kakande doubled SC Villa’s lead with six minutes left to end the first half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Onekalit had a genuine chance to extend Villa’s lead, but the attempt went inches above the frame.
Maroons handed debuts to Ambrose Kiirya and Bashir Mutanda, who struggled to impress on the day.
The 2024 FUFA Super Eight tournament fixtures have been released and holders BUL are set to lock horns with Maroons FC.
The match avails BUL a chance to kick start its title defence against the Prison Wardens at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday, August 2.

This year, the FUFA Super Eight will have SC Villa, BUL, Vipers SC, Kitara FC, KCCA FC, Maroons FC, NEC FC and the Uganda Cranes Select Team.
The Venues set to be used will be St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende, MTN Omondi Stadium – Lugogo and Mandela National Stadium – Namboole.

Still, on August 2, Vipers will take on NEC at Kitende in the other quarterfinal clash.
A day later, Saturday August 3, Kitara FC will play against KCCA FC while the Uganda Cranes Select Team will take on UPL Champions SC Villa at Namboole.
These two teams will face off in a two legged format before heading into the semifinals. In the same berth, the losing sides will face off in placement games.
Joel Mutakubwa came off the bench in the final minute of the game and saved three of URA FC’s penalties to help BUL win the FUFA Super 8.
After a goalless draw, BUL registered a 3-1 penalty shootout victory against URA FC in the final played at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.
It was a slow start for both teams as they struggled to find the required rhythm for the final.
None of the two teams weaved together a sensible number of passes but rather skied the ball all through.
URA FC’s first chance came in the 25th minute after Ivan Ahimbisibwe set up Joshua Lubwama but the resultant effort went over the frame by inches.
In the 34th minute, Ahimbisibwe climbed highest to node Enock Walusimbi’s lofted cross but he directed it far from the target.
Saidi Keni made a stunning save to deny Ahimbisibwe as URA kept knocking on BUL’s door with five minutes to play in the first stanza.
In the 62nd minute, Jerome Kirya’s curling ball was finger-tipped away by URA’s custodian Denis Otim.
The second half was reminiscent of the first as there were no threatening attacks on either side as they both looked comfortable with the scoreline.
In the final minute of the game, Walusimbi tripped Joel Madondo in the dangerous area but the centre referee denied BUL what looked like a clear penalty.
After a barren stalemate, the centre referee sent the match into penalties.
BUL’s penalties were converted by Lawrence Tezikya, Jerome Kirya, and Joel Mutakubwa as Ronald Otti missed
Joshua Lubwama was the only URA to convert from the 12-yard mark as Sharipf Kimbowa, Hudu Mulikyi, and Nicholas Kabonge all missed.

SC Villa were the best in the final minutes of the game but failed to guide the ball into the back of the net.
Uganda Premier side URA FC is braced to take on BUL FC in the FUFA Super 8 finals at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Following the demise of former head coach Sam Timbe, Fred Muhumuza took up the interim coaching role and his first assignment was against KCCA FC.
However, he is not allowed to get excited yet but to come as underdogs into the final game of the tournament.
“Finals are tricky games; we’ve prepared for all eventualities because we expect a tight game,” Muhumuza said.
“BUL FC has won the Uganda Cup in the past three years, and we have won nothing,” he added.
The game against the oil manufacturers becomes the first final of the Tax Collectors in the last eight years.
“We do not take them for granted, we are the underdogs, but we promise to give our fans a good game on Sunday because we want to win the cup.”
To reach the final, URA FC went past Bright Stars in the earlier outing before ousting KCCA FC in a 2-1 victory during the semifinal clash.
They last lifted the Uganda Cup in the 2013/14 season and the Uganda Premier League in the 2010/11 season but Sunday provides a chance for them to end the thirst for silverware.

KCCA FC will seek to maintain a perfect run under their new coach Sergio Traguil as they face a URA FC side reeling from the loss of head coach Sam Timbe in the FUFA Super 8.
The Kasasiro Boys kick-started the campaign by eliminating Wakiso Giants in a 2-0 victory. On their way to the finals now stand the Tax Collectors.
During the press conference, Traguil urged his troops to stick to the plan so that they show something special.
“We need to show something special in this game,” he told the KCCA media.
“We our opponents have a very young squad and have signed over 10 players but if we stick to our principles and do things we have been doing in training all week then we shall have the edge over them,” he added.
While URA wants to fight for maximum points in honor of their fallen head coach Sam Timbe.
URA FC assistant coach Fred Muhumuza revealed that it’s been a hard time for them though the spirit is gradually improving.
“It has been tough times for us following the death of a father figure in Coach Sam Timbe but thank God we returned to training and the spirit is good,” Muhumuza noted.
“We have told players that Timbe wanted success and now they have to win to make him proud. We are playing a good side but if we are to win silverware then we ought to be set and ready to face anyone,” he concluded.
The last time the two teams played was at Metha Stadium, Lugazi as URA FC beat KCCA FC in a 2-0 well-deserved victory.
