FUFA Women Super League side Kampala Queens has announced a three-lady team as the new leadership ahead of the upcoming season.

Kampala Queens have confirmed Shamirah Nalugya as the team’s first captain replacing goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro.

Nakaziro was appointed the club captain in the previous campaign to replace long term serving Zaina Namuleme.

This comes after goalkeeper Nakaziro has declined a chance to sign a new contract at the club.

Still about the new leadership, defender Jamila Nabulime and Zaina Nandede will be assistant and second assistant respectively.

The Queens of Soccer will kick start the FUFA Women Super League on Friday, September 27 against Wakiso Giants WFC at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

After two and a half years of being Kampala Queens captain, Zainah Namuleme has decided to step down from the role.

Namuleme expressed his gratitude to the Lugogo-based side but also wished her successor all the best as the journey unfolds.

“Today I cease to be the captain of this club. It has been a great honour to serve as the captain of Kampala Queens Football Club,” she stated.

“I thank the club for giving me a special opportunity to serve in the best way possible,” she added.

Namuleme took over the role from Fauzia Najjembe at the start of the 2021/22 season. Najjemba had earlier replaced Aisha Namukisa.

Under her reign, Kampala Queens won their maiden FUFA Women Super League trophy in the previous season after coming so close in the 2021/22 campaign.

“Me and my fellow players and the new captain will play our hearts out to achieve our ultimate target of defending our league title this season.”

“I strongly believe the club’s armband will be in safe hands and I wish our new skipper the very best in all her endeavours,” she concluded.

Asubo Gafford held Kampala Queens in a 0-0 draw in the FUFA Women Super League encounter played at Kampala Quality Grounds, Kisasi on Saturday.

The golden point continues to show how Asubo Gafford has greatly improved as the first round of the campaign came to an end.

Asubo Gafford also forced a goalless stalemate against table leaders Kawempe Muslim in yet another tight game.

It was a closely contested game where possession was evenly shared in the middle park thus creating limited chances at either goal.

In the 42nd minute, Kamiyat Naigaga forced Kampala Queens’ custodian Daisy Nakaziro into a full-stretch save thwarting the powerful effort away.

Four minutes past an hour of football, Catherine Nagadya’s effort rattled off the frame as the Queens of soccer nearly took the lead.

The point sends Asubo to the seventh position on the log with nine points while Kampala Queens are second with 20 points.
