Uganda Premier League | Fixtures
KCCA has had a mixed run of form this season, but the Kasasiro Boys are determined to build on their recent success when they face UPDF in the Uganda Premier League.
In their last match, KCCA secured an impressive 5-0 victory over struggling Mbale Heroes at MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo. This well-deserved win ended a six-game winless streak, restoring hope among fans and management during a challenging period.
KCCA has dominated encounters against UPDF, remaining unbeaten in their last 13 meetings, with eight wins and five draws.
This strong record provides confidence as they travel to Bombo for this important fixture.
KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru expressed optimism ahead of the match, highlighting the team’s thorough preparation and positive mindset.
“We have prepared well for UPDF FC, which has always been a tough opponent for us,” Mubiru stated.
“The boys have trained hard all week, the mood in camp is high, and we hope to use our previous game as a momentum shift as we head into the final stretch of the league.”
KCCA will be without Steven Munguchi and Mustafa Mujuzi due to injuries while Ettiene Katenga and Hassan Muhamud have returned to training, they are not yet fit for this match.
On the other hand, UPDF will welcome back Christopher Kawagu, who missed their previous defeat to URA due to suspension.
Uganda Cranes head coach, Paul Put, has added KCCA FC’s Usama Arafat Kiza to the provisional squad for the 2024 CHAN tournament.
The development was confirmed on Thursday, January 9, 2024, through FUFA’s official social media channels.
“Usama Arafat Kiza of KCCA FC has been added to the Uganda Cranes provisional CHAN squad that starts training on Friday morning,” FUFA announced.
The head coach had initially named a 36-man provisional squad on Wednesday, January 8, at FUFA House in Mengo.
However, Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omedi, who were originally included, were later unveiled by Rwanda’s APR, ruling them out of the tournament.
Usama’s inclusion fills the gap left by their departure and adds further competition for places in the final 26-man squad.
The final squad will be announced on Monday, after which the selected players will enter a residential training camp at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi.

KCCA secured a 1-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Mbale Municipal Stadium on Saturday.
Bright Anukani was on the target to help the Kasasiro Boys take maximum points at home.
Anukani nodded into the back of the net after being set up by Abubaker Mayanja in the 30th minute of the game.
Despite the strong fight from the home side, KCCA’s backline stood firm and tall to ensure that they take home the win.
KCCA is still unbeaten after six games, with four wins and draws.
KCCA now takes the log summit with 14 points, yet Mbale Heroes is 15th with four points.
Up next, Mbale Heroes will take on Police at Kavumba while KCCA lock horns with Maroons at Lugogo.

KCCA aim to return to winning ways as they take on Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League at the Mbale Municipal Stadium on Saturday.
Their last match ended in a goalless draw against UPDF, which put a halt to their impressive run.
However, the gaffer Abdallah Mubiru thinks his team can do better if they start taking away chances created.
“We still have a challenge of taking away the chances created. It’s been haunting us in previous games, and I think it was the difference against UPDF,” he said.
“We are ready for the game against Mbale Heroes. There is so much history between these two sides, and this game will revive so many memories,” he added.
KCCA will miss the services of injured Julius Poloto, Sadat Anaku and Derrick Nsibambi.
The Kasasiro Boys will also welcome back Arafat Usama, Ettiene Katenga, and Haruna Lukwago, who boast the team’s roaster.
Asaph Mwebaze’s troops have a tough assignment since they lost 4-0 against URA in their last home fixture.
Forward Sadat Happy Anaku has completed his move to Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC.
The pacy forward joins KCCA on a season-long deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Anaku returns to a club that he left in August 2022. At that moment, he joined the Scottish professional football side, Dundee United.
On his return, the forward admitted that he is so happy to be back at KCCA.
“I feel so happy to be back to KCCA FC where it all started. I am eager to compete with my mates to help the club achieve its objectives,” he stated.
“I love the fact that when I came back here, I found several familiar faces in the dressing room, and this place simply feels like home,” he added.
“I am thankful to the club board, management, and Head Coach for having granted me this opportunity to return to KCCA FC, and I can not wait to get started again.”
But his stay at Dundee was short-lived since he did not get enough playing time due to recurring injuries.
Anaku joined KCCA in 2016 while he was still a student at Kibuli Secondary School. He played for the junior side until 2019.
For the time he has spent at the MTN Omondi Stadium, he has scored 83 goals in 52 games for the junior side and 22 goals in 67 games for the senior side.

KCCA secured a 1-0 victory against Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Tuesday.
Derrick Nsibambi was on the scoresheet once again to help the Kasasiro Boys maintain their perfect run.
It was a splendid victory for KCCA, who ended their poor run at Kavumba. They had failed to get maximum points on that ground in the last three meetings.
In the 16th minute, Saidi Mayanja beat his marker on the right flank before he released forward Derrick Nsibambi, but the forward’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Derrick Were.
Ten minutes later, Nsibambi missed a huge opportunity after beating the goalkeeper, Were but the forward’s resultant effort went wide.
At half an hour mark, Nsibambi broke the deadlock. His effort was deflected in the net after going past goalkeeper Were.
Before the start of the second half, the gaffer Abdallah Mubiru introduced Emmanuel Anyama for Nsibambi.
In the 66th minute, defender Musitafa Mujuzi made a massive block to deny Noordin Bunjo from close range.
Shafik Kwikiriza and Haruna Lukwago combined to beat markers, but the latter’s cross went across goal, but Anyama was late.
The victory takes KCCA on top of the log with 10 points while Bright Stars are 13th with two points in four games.

KCCA secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Mbale Heroes in the Uganda Premier League encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.
In a game played under the floodlights, KCCA came out of the kiln alive after humbling the Royals in front of a loud crowd.
James Mubezi picked Nsibambi in the ninth minute, but his header was planted wide as the hosts kept knocking on the door.
Two minutes later, attacking midfielder Mayanja drew first blood with a powerful hit to give the hosts the lead.
It was a sweet and solo run from Shafik Kwikiriza, who beat several bodies before setting up Mayanja on the right flank.
Nsibambi doubled KCCA’s lead with an easy tap-in after rounding off Kitara’s goalkeeper Chrispas Kusiima.
The custodian miscued his kick, and it ended up in Nsibambi’s path, who made no mistake steps away from the goal line.
In the 58th minute, Bright Anukani’s effort outside the box rattled off the frame before it was cleared away for a corner kick.
Kitara got two freekicks in great positions, but they poorly handled them, thus not picking anything out of the attacks.
In the dying minutes, Kwikiriza cut inside on different occasions but failed to guide his efforts on target.
The victory takes KCCA on seven points in three games while Kitara remains on three points in as many games played off the season.

BUL held KCCA in a 1-1 draw in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Friday.
Ashraf Mugume and Jerome Kirya scored for KCCA and BUL respectively in the end-to-end encounter.
In under two minutes, BUL nearly took the lead when Jerome Kirya engineered a counterattack, but his final pass to Ramz Kawooya was far from required.
Ettiene Katenga surged forward before pulling off a powerful effort.
The ball deflected off the Walter Ochora, but KCCA’s shouts for handball went unnoticed.
Kirya forced Mutwalibi Mugolofa into two massive saves as the hosts kept knocking on the door.
At the death of the first stanza, Saidi Mayanja teed up Katenga, but the forward’s final effort went wide of the target.
Mugume broke the deadlock with a header from a perfect delivery by Mayanja. However, Derrick Nsibambi started the attack with a quick throw-in.
Kwikiriza nearly doubled the visitors’ attack in the 70th minute, but BUL’s backline stood tall and firm to clear the danger away from the area.
Four minutes later, Kirya restored parity with a powerful effort from outside the box to finally beat goalkeeper Mutwalibu.
The draw takes KCCA to four points while BUL has two points after two games into the campaign.

BUL host KCCA in the Uganda Premier League at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Friday, September 20, 2024.
The hosts kicked off the 2024-25 campaign with a goalless draw against 10-man Police while KCCA secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against URA.
BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko is confident that his charges are in a better shape to put up the required fight.
“We started with a point away from home, which is not bad,” Kikomeko stated.
“But against KCCA, we ironed out the mistakes we made especially in the final third, and we are confident of a victory,” he added.
In the same spirit, KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru has called upon his troops to forget the victory against URA and focus on the assignment at hand.
“Focus has since shifted to the BUL game, which we have control over, but the win over URA is now in the past,” he stated.
Team News
The return of Jerome Kirya and Pascal will greatly improve BUL’s team sheet and provide Kikomeko with more options.
On the other hand, KCCA will miss the services of Julius Poloto, Usama Arafat, and Emmanuel Anyama due to injuries.
In the 23 meetings between the two sides, BUL has won five, KCCA 10, and shared spoils on eight occasions.
