Third-placed Vipers will make a short trip to face log leaders SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku today.
Vipers gaffer Alex Isabirye anticipates a tough duel with the wounded Buffalo in Villa having lost twice on a bounce.
“They are on top of the table and they are home so that game will not be easy at all,” Isabirye told the club media.
“They have good coaches and good players who can create a tough opposition any day. So it will be a difficult game,” he added.
Jackson Magera’s troops had an excellent start to the second round of the ongoing campaign, they won seven straight games after a draw in the opener but their form has fallen after losing twice to Arua Hill and KCCA.
Isabirye believes they have equally prepared well and have enough to claim maximum points.
“We have equally prepared well and shall go there too and put up a good performance because we need those three points.”
Vipers had a slow start to the year that saw a change of gaffers but the Kitende-based side is slowly finding a rhythm and collecting results.
“Both teams have good players, so it will go down to who fights for it the most,” he concluded.
In the reverse fixture, Vipers registered a 2-0 victory against Villa while the last time they met at the latter’s home it was a goalless draw.
KCCA Football Club interim manager Jackson Magera started his reign at MTN Omondi Stadium on Sunday.
It was a perfect start to the story as KCCA registered a 4-1 victory against SC Villa in the Kampala Derby.
After the heavy downpour, the fans turned up at MTN Omondi Stadium to be witnesses of the Kampala Derby.
The Lugogo-based side brought an end to a poor spell that had seen them go five games without a win.
While SC Villa suffered a second loss in a row after falling to Arua Hill in a 1-0 on Wednesday.
KCCA opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as Tshisungu Kankonde nodded home after being set up by Allan Okello after beating Villa custodian Martin Elungat.
Five minutes later, Saidi Mayanja extended the hosts’ lead with a diving header from Kakonde’s cross from the left flank.
Five minutes into the second stanza, Charles Bbaale was in the right place to convert from close range after KCCA’s custodian Benjamin Ochan punched into play.
Two minutes past half an hour mark, Rogers Mato made it three for the hosts after his emphatic effort left Elungat helplessly beaten before Julius Poloto completed the rout in added time.
The victory leaves SC Villa at the summit with 43 points, two above KCCA FC who have played two games less.
In the next games, SC Villa will host Vipers on Saturday while KCCA will visit Gaddafi on the same day.
KCCA FC and SC Villa will lock horns at MTN Omondi Stadium as the two sides keep sight of the summit of the Uganda Premier League log.
The two local giants come into this duel after losing their previous games and will seek to make amends going forward.
KCCA have no win in their last four games registering three stalemates and a draw while SC Villa is on a good run having lost once and won six in their last seven.
KCCA will have their new manager Jackson ‘Mia Mia’ Mayanga take on his first task since taking on the role of interim head coach.
“KCCA and Villa is a big game,” Mayanja was quoted by the club’s website before adding; “We need to show that we have the mentality for such games.”
“I have come here to win and this is the most important thing. We have eight games to end the season and every game will matter.”
“We must change our mindset and this starts immediately. I respect SC Villa and I credit their hard work to get where they are but this is a derby and we are KCCA FC.”
“We have to step up and show we want it more than them,” he concluded.
In the reverse fixture, KCCA beat the Jogoo 3-0 in a game that was played at Akii Bua Stadium, Lira.
Currently, SC Villa is on top of the log with 43 points while KCCA is second will 38 having played two games less than the latter.
