NEC will be without two key players, Enock Ssebagala and James Jarieko, for their Wednesday evening clash against Soltilo Bright Stars at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Both players are suspended after accumulating three bookings. Despite their absence, NEC is determined to reclaim the top spot from Vipers SC.
Defenders David Bayiga and Gideon Odong return to the squad after missing the 1-1 draw against URA last week due to similar suspension issues.
Head coach Hussein Mbalangu acknowledges the challenge posed by Bright Stars, who currently sit at the bottom of the league table.
“They are a good side, so we must stay alert,” Mbalangu said. “We’ve worked on our finishing after missing chances against URA, and I believe we’ll secure a win. We’ve turned our home into a slaughterhouse,” he added.
Bright Stars, on the other hand, are desperate to reverse their fortunes, having failed to win in their last three matches.
With only one victory in 11 Premier League games, head coach Ian Mutenda will be counting on skipper Nelson Ssenkatuka and the rest of his attackers to deliver, while maintaining defensive solidity.
Last season, both Premier League encounters between NEC and Bright Stars ended in draws: a goalless stalemate in Lugogo and a 1-1 result in Kavumba.
