URA secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Friday.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored the lonely goal as the Tax Collectors registered maximum points on the day.

Norman Namanya thought he had given the visitors the lead, but his exciting effort was flagged offside in the 17th minute.

Three minutes later, Emmanuel Oketch’s overhead kick sailed inches above the frame after connecting well with Moses Aliro’s corner kick.

At the death of the first stanza, Ahimbisibwe guided the ball into the back of the net to place URA in the driving seat.

Ten minutes into the second stanza, goalkeeper Derrick Ochan made a big save to deny the hosts from close range.

Hudu Mulikyi was stretchered off the field of play with ten minutes to the final whistle after a nasty collision. He was later replaced by George Masembe.

The victory means that URA has three points in two games following a 1-0 loss to KCCA on matchday one.

KCCA Football Club are set to host URA Football Club as the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League campaign gets underway at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.

As the campaign kicks off, both sides will be seeking maximum points so as to attain a perfect start.

KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru believes that his charges are motivated enough to secure an impressive start.

“We want to start the league on a positive note as this will give us momentum,” the gaffer stated.

“We have prepared well and hopefully the players can execute the things we have been working on during pre-season,” he added.

“We will not have Usama Arafat as he is recovering from a knock he suffered in pre-season but the rest of the squad is available to represent the club.”

URA gaffer Alex Isabirye sounds confident noting that he is building a team that will put up a great fight.

“We are building a team that will compete. Personally, I am a natural born winner and I want trophies here and our target this season is to achieve something at the end,” he stated.

KCCA will be seeking a better start to the league compared to that of the previous campaign where they were winless in the first five games.

In the previous 29 meetings, KCCA FC has won nine times, while URA FC FC has won 13. Both sides have shared spoils seven times.


Uganda Premier League side URA has confirmed the acquisition of attacking midfielder Abraham Tusubira in the ongoing transfer window.

The signing was confirmed via the club’s official website on Tuesday, September 9, 2024.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Abraham Tusubira,” the statement.

Tusubira registered 10 assists in the league last season where he led the sheet of creators.

In the same breath, he missed out on the best midfielder award that went to SC Villa’s Ronald Ssekiganda.

His arrival follows the arrival of new entrant Isma Mugulusi as the Tax Collectors continue to build a new team ahead of the new season.

Uganda Premier League giants URA FC have strengthened their defensive ranks with the acquisition of experienced defender Bright Vuni on a two-year contract.

The Tax Collectors confirmed the signing on their official website on Wednesday, September 11th.

Vuni joins URA from UPDF FC, where he was a key figure last season.

Known for his defensive solidity, aerial ability, and occasional goal-scoring prowess, he is a valuable addition to the Tax Collectors’ backline.

The defender replaces Najib Fesali, who departed for BUL FC at the end of his contract.

Vuni brings a wealth of experience to URA, having previously played for Arua Hill SC in the top tier.

He becomes URA’s third new signing of the summer, joining Isma Mugulusi and Abraham Tusubira.

The Tax Collectors will kick off their 2024/25 campaign with a tough test against KCCA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Friday, September 13th.

Uganda Premier League side URA has extended the employment contract of promising right-back Justin Opiro.

Opiro has signed a three-year employment contract that will keep him at the club until the year 2027.

The event was confirmed via the club’s official website in the ongoing transfer window.

“Highly promising youthful right back Justin Opiro has renewed his contract at the club for an additional three years,” the statement reads.

Opiro’s football journey started at Good Soccer Academy in Northern Uganda.

He later moved to Bright Valley Primary School in Wagaddu before joining Kibuli Secondary School.

At the time, he became KCCA Junior Team captain before completing his advanced level at St Mary’s Kitende SS.

While at Kitende, the right back attained the USSSA National title and East Africa Football Championship.

Notably, he has represented Uganda with the Uganda Cubs (U-17) and Uganda Hippos (U-20).

Uganda Premier League side Express has confirmed Saidi Kyeyune as their latest signing in the ongoing transfer window.

This comes after the experienced midfielder was released by URA Football Club, a side he had played at for a significant time.

Kyeyune is viewed as a replacement for Ramz Kawooya, who left the Red Eagles to join Jinja-based BUL FC.

Kyeyune is expected to boost Express’ middle park as he will pair with Emmanuel Wasswa behind youngster Geofrey Gaganga, who also recently joined the side.

Express will kick start the upcoming season against Mbale Heroes on Saturday, September 17, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club has tied down James Begisa for the next two campaigns.

The roving right-back put pen on a two-year employment contract that will keep him at the club until the 2025-26 campaign.

“James Begisa renewed his stay at URA FC last week for the next two years that will see him serve the club until the 2025-26 season,” the statement partly reads.

In an interview with URA FC media, Begisa expressed his gratitude towards the club for extending his stay at the club.

“I’m incredibly grateful to URA FC for the opportunity to continue my journey here,” Begisa was quoted by the club’s official website.

“The past two seasons have been a nice experience, filled with growth and happiness. I feel honoured to wear this jersey and represent this club,” he added.

“I also want to thank the management, my teammates, and the fans for believing in me. This new contract is not just a renewal but a commitment from me to work even harder.”

His ability to balance both attacking and defensive duties has made him an important piece of the club’s puzzle.

Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club boosted its technical wing with three new members.

Last month the Tax Collectors appointed Alex Isabirye as the head coach for the second time replacing David Obua.

Isabirye has boosted his technical bench with three names namely; Baker Ssenabulya Kasule, Crespo Asiku and Jamir Damba.

Kasule and Asiku join the Tax Collectors as the first and second assistant coaches while Damba is the new goalkeeping coach.

The appointment will give Isabirye and Kasule reunite having worked at Vipers and BUL previously. The duo always complement each other and also build winning teams.

As the trio joined the team, Robert Mukasa and Swaib Ssebagala were going through the back door. 

Mukasa and Ssebagala served the club for two seasons under the leadership of Sam Timbe (RIP) and David Obua.

After the sacking of Obua, Mukasa was asked to become the club’s interim head coach until the season’s end.

URA concluded the season in the eighth position with 40 points. 

Uganda Premier League side URA Football Club has appointed Alex Isabirye as their head coach.

Isabirye comes in as a suitable replacement for David Obua who was relieved from duty in the recent campaign.

The development was confirmed on the club website today Monday, May 20, 2024.

“We are delighted to officially announce the appointment of Alex Isabirye Musongola as our new head coach,” the statement partly reads.

In the same breath, the club CEO Allan Munaba revealed that everyone at URA is optimistic that Isabirye will take them back to their glory days.

“We are optimistic that Isabirye’s return will revive our glory days, with his vast experience and previous success as the key assets,” he said.

“His immediate challenge will be preparing the squad for the grand opening of the newly refurbished Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium where we last won our league title as home ground,” he added.

It will be the second time Isabirye serves the club. The gaffer managed the club in the 2010/11 season before clinching the Uganda Cup in 2012.

URA finished eighth in the 2023/23 Uganda Premier League season with 40 points in 29 games.

SC Villa secured a 2-1 victory against URA in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday evening.

Kenneth Semakula and Umar Lutalo scored for SC Villa as the league record champions bounced from a goal to clinch victory.

Bruno Bunyaga scored URA’s lonely goal but it was not enough on the day.

Patrick Kakande made good runs on the left flank before dashing in but failed to get his efforts on target.

The hosts’ best chance fell to Ronald Ssekiganda’s head but the effort off Gavin Kizito went wide of the frame.

Charles Lwanga remained with a goalkeeper to beat but instead ballooned the ball from close range.

It was goalless at the interval as the two sides sent the fight to the second stanza of the game.

Youngster Bunyaga gave the visitors a lead in the 80th minute with a powerful header from close range.

Two minutes later, Umar Lutalo restored parity with a powerful shot through a forest of bodies into the back of the net.

With two minutes left on the clock, Semakula’s effort from distance reclaimed Villa’s lead as Wankulukuku turned into a party mood.

The victory takes Villa on top of the log with 54 points while URA lies eighth with 39 points after 28 games.
