FUFA Super 8 | Fixture
Friday, August 23, 2023
KCCA FC will seek to maintain a perfect run under their new coach Sergio Traguil as they face a URA FC side reeling from the loss of head coach Sam Timbe in the FUFA Super 8.
The Kasasiro Boys kick-started the campaign by eliminating Wakiso Giants in a 2-0 victory. On their way to the finals now stand the Tax Collectors.
During the press conference, Traguil urged his troops to stick to the plan so that they show something special.
“We need to show something special in this game,” he told the KCCA media.
“We our opponents have a very young squad and have signed over 10 players but if we stick to our principles and do things we have been doing in training all week then we shall have the edge over them,” he added.
While URA wants to fight for maximum points in honor of their fallen head coach Sam Timbe.
URA FC assistant coach Fred Muhumuza revealed that it’s been a hard time for them though the spirit is gradually improving.
“It has been tough times for us following the death of a father figure in Coach Sam Timbe but thank God we returned to training and the spirit is good,” Muhumuza noted.
“We have told players that Timbe wanted success and now they have to win to make him proud. We are playing a good side but if we are to win silverware then we ought to be set and ready to face anyone,” he concluded.
The last time the two teams played was at Metha Stadium, Lugazi as URA FC beat KCCA FC in a 2-0 well-deserved victory.
FUFA has announced that there will be a minute of silence before kickoff in memory of Timbe.
The FUFA Competitions Department has postponed the clash between KCCA FC and URA FC.
The two sides were set to play in the FUFA Super 8 semi-finals that were scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2023.
The announcement was made via FUFA’s official just a few hours after URA gaffer Sam Timbe was announced dead.
“FUFA Competitions Department has postponed the FUFA Super 8 semi-final match between KCCA FC and URA FC that was meant to be played on Sunday, August 20, 2023,” the statement partly read.
“The decision was made to allow URA FC and the entire football honour and pay their last respects to coach Sam Timbe who passed on today (Saturday) afternoon,” it added.
URA announced the sudden happening after he passed away while being taken to Nakasero Hospital for further check-ups.
According to FUFA, a new date for the clash will be confirmed later after discussions.
“We continue to send our commiserations to the family, friends, URA FC and the football fraternity at large,” the statement concluded.
Defender Enock Walusimbi has finally returned to Uganda Premier League, joining URA FC in the ongoing transfer window.
Walusimbi joined URA FC as a free agent after being released by Scottish side Peterhead Football Club.
Walusimbi has previously played for Express FC and Bright Stars where he staged tremendous performances thus proving his worth on the field of play.
In the 2020/21 campaign, he lifted the Uganda Premier League as the captain of Express FC.
He later went on to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam to seal off his most successful campaign in his football journey.
After the thrilling show, he flew out hence sealing off a deal to join the Scottish side Peterhead FC.
But his stay there was far from required after making only six appearances in the previous season.
His move to URA FC gives him a chance to reignite his footballing journey and chance his dreams once again.
Asaph Mwebaze and Uganda Premier League side Bright Stars have parted ways according to media reports.
Before the start of the 2022/23 campaign, Bright Stars announced that they had signed Asaph Mwebaze on a three-year-employment contract.
By the look of things, the marriage of the two is down in shambles just after a year of the union.
Mwebaze replaced Paul Kiwanuka who left the role after his interim stay at the club had run down.
While at Bright Stars, Mwebaze started on roughly a fair note as the side spent a while without a win or a loss before they gained their mojo on the course later on.
They finished ninth on the log at the end of the season with 35 points. They managed to win nine games, drew eight and lost 11 across the journey.
Bright Stars also lost to Vipers SC in the semifinals of the Uganda Cup, hence missing out on a spot in the race’s final lap.
Uganda Premier League side URA FC has confirmed Ibrahim Wammanah as their sixth signing in the ongoing transfer window.
The Proline Academy graduate joins the Tax Collectors as a free agent after his contract at UPDF FC run down and he chose not to renew the marriage.
He has signed a two-year employment contract that will keep him at URA FC until 2025.
While speaking to URA FC media team, the midfielder revealed the transfer will help him grow as a player.
“It’s a big move to me and in my career because it will help me develop as a player,” he was quoted by the club’s official website.
“It’s a big privilege to join URA FC because it’s a big team and when such an opportunity comes you have to take it up. I want to help the club win silverware in my first season,” he added.
Wammanah brings leadership at URA since he has been UPDF’s captain. He also adds mobility, combativeness, composure, passing intelligence and the ability to break an opponent’s play.
He joins Denis Luzige Kisiriko, John Innocent Kisolo, Amis Bwangani, Godfrey Sekibengo and Moses Aliro.
Uganda Premier League URA FC have finally unveiled Moses Aliro as their fifth signing of the ongoing transfer season.
Aliro joins Denis Kisiriko Luzige, John Kisolo Innocent, Amis Bwagani and Godfrey Sekibengo as the latest addition to the Tax Collectors’ camp.
The development was brought to the public via the club’s official website on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
“It’s official, Moses Aliro Okabo is the latest Tax Collector in the house,” the statement partly read.
“The versatile player joins the club as a free agent from Wakiso Giants FC on a two-year employment contract,” it added.
Speaking to URA FC media, Aliro revealed that he hopes they win and achieve many positives together.
“I believe we can together achieve. Personally, I want to help the club win the league and score goals,” he said.
“I want to help the club achieve a lot. I thank the management of the club for the trust they have put in me and I can only pay them back with good performance.”
Aliro’s presence will extend a high level of versatility to the squad since he is capable of playing in the midfield, upfront as well as in the backline.
Uganda Premier League side URA FC has finalised the acquisition of yet another youngster John Innocent Kisolo.
The talented midfielder put pen to paper on a three-year employment contract with the Tax Collectors.
The development was announced on Monday via the club’s official website.
“URA FC have completed the signing of teenage defensive midfielder Kisolo John Innocent on a three-year contract,” a statement partly read.
“Welcome to the Tax Collectors family Kisolo,” the statement added.
The 16-year-old midfielder joins URA FC from Masaka-based St. Henry’s College Kitovu.
While at Kitovu, he was the skipper and guided the school to its maiden final of the USSSA football championship that was held in Fort Portal.
For the 18 games played at Kitovu, he scored six goals and made eight assists.
Kisolo has previously played for KCCA Junior Team where he played thrice and scored once.
He becomes the second signing for URA FC after the unveiling of forward Kisiriko Denis Luzige.
A brief about Kisolo
Wakiso Giants FC’s anchor man Lawrence Bukenya was one of the best players of the recently concluded season.
His impressive ball sense and patroling traits have attracted a number of top sides within and outside the boundaries of the country.
Reports indicate the ‘Tax Collectors’ are leading the race and have made their interest formal as they continue to court the player’s signature.
URA FC is still hurt for a direct replacement of their former captain Shafick Kagimu who left the club midway through last season after falling out with the technical team.
Bukenya is gifted with the skill of passing the ball within different ranges, he has proven to be a smart ball-winner and is always ready to drive the team forward.
Last season he played only 23 games out of 28 match days but each time Wakiso Giants played without him it would be clear that their midfield puzzle was not complete.
He guided the Purple Sharks to the eighth position by the end of the campaign with 36 points.
For starters, he is among the nominees lined up for the accolade of the season’s best midfielder in the upcoming Uganda Premier League (UPL) awards.
A brief about Bukenya
During the transfer period across the world, entries and exits are expected and URA FC’s door has opened right away without wasting any time.
Defender Ronald Kigongo has been the first to walk through the back door of URA FC after serving the tax collectors for seven years.
Kigongo joined URA FC in 2016 joining Luzira-based Maroons FC.
His last contract at the Tax Collectors was signed in 2020 for three years and came to an end this month.
The defender hardly played so many games and hardly made a case for himself to see his contract renewed.
According to the club’s official website, the management thanked Kigongo for the great work done while at the club.
URA FC will need to dust their squad ahead of next season having played to a disappointing campaign.
With a squad dubbed with quality players, they finished fifth on the log with 42 points, 11 behind the log leaders Vipers SC.
URA FC head coach Sam Timbe has sent a strong warning to SC Villa ahead of a snapshot end to the ongoing Uganda Premier League.
The two sides are set to lock horns at Muteesa (II) Wankulukuku Stadium in the highly anticipated show on Saturday afternoon.
SC Villa comes in this game seeking maximum points against the Tax Collectors so that they are capable of ending the 19-year wait for a league title.
“We would like to end the season on a high note,” Timbe told the press ahead of the game tomorrow.
“We have prepared ourselves for the last game. It’s going to be a tricky game but we surely want the results. We are one of the teams that came into the league looking for the trophy,” he added.
“It was by bad luck that we are in such a position. So our bosses, players and the technical team want to finish the season in the best of ways.”
Timbe was the man in the dugout as SC Villa won their last title in 2004 after taking over from Sredojevic Milutin Micho who left the club midway through the season.
However, Timbe revealed that they will take on the table leader with no soft spot since they have a target as a team and the result should be determined on a fair-play basis.
“I did not leave SC Villa on the wrong note. So I moved on and I am answerable to my new bosses. So as a club, we shall put up our best and the result will be determined on the field of play and nothing else,” he underlined.
SC Villa are on the summit of the log with 52 points while URA FC are locked at 39 points in the sixth position.
