Explosive guard Brenda Ekone flipped the switch as JKL Lady Dolphins beat Nabisunsa Girls 80-64 in an NBL encounter at the MTN Arena.

Ekone, who is the leading scorer in the league, scored 37 on 14-of-31 shooting and also picked 9 rebounds.

JKL finish the first round with nine wins from as many games as the side confirms their intent of a three-peat.

JKL even afforded to rest Hope Akello and Ritah Imanishimwe to give the rest of the pack more minutes but Nabisunsa got off the blocks to lead 23-9 after the first quarter.

Stella Oyella was brought off the bench to restore parity and the team got stability thereafter as Nabisunsa was limited to just nine points in the second quarter for the defending champions to lead 37-32 at halftime.

JKL never looked back in a game Evelyn Nakiyinji shot 4-for-7 from three while Hope Gimono (14) also scored in double figures.

Priscilla Nambogo and Patience Karungi notched 17 and 14 points respectively for Nabisunsa Girls who suffered their seventh loss of the season.

This is Nabisunsa’s second of the three rescheduled games and the side will return to action on Saturday against UCU Lady Canons at YMCA. The games were postponed at Nabisunsa’s request as the side had three players on Uganda’s team at the concluded ISF World Schools Games in France.

The Second Round of the National Basketball League will tip off on June 3rd.
