Dominic Otuchet, president of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) feels the Uganda contingent to the 2022 World Athletics Championships will win medals.

Double Olympic medalist Joshua Cheptegei will lead Uganda's team to the events for July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon of the United States.

Otuchet is confident there will be silverware from the group and he told Xinhua about his expectations.

"We are optimistic that we shall put up a good show at the World Championships and win more medals than before," said Otuchet.

"We should have had more athletes to make the team, but some will concentrate on preparations for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the World U20 Championships."

History backs the contingent as Cheptegei returns, having claimed gold in the men's 10,000m at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Former Olympic and World Championships medalist Davis Kamoga will also be part of the traveling contingent as a technical advisor.

Kamoga won a bronze medal in the men's 400m at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, and a silver medal at the 1997 World Championships in Athens.
