- South Africa 48-54 Uganda
Uganda’s National Netball Team, She Cranes, registered a magnificent win against South Africa to finish fifth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
It’s the first victory for She Cranes against Africa’s top-ranked side in fifteen years and it's Uganda's best performance at the games.
The side had seen off Malawi to finish third in the group and set up an all-African decider for 5th place.
Mary Nuba Cholhok who started at GS scored 31 goals while GA Irene Eyaru contributed 21 and Shadia Nassanga added two more in a historical win.
Ine-Mari Venter and Van Der Berg scored 25 and 17 goals respectively for South Africa in a losing effort.
South Africa looked better early in the game but once the She Cranes settled in, they seamlessly controlled the game thereafter.
The She Cranes led 15-13 after the first quarter and were up by nine points at halftime.
South Africa started to get grip on the game when Jesca Acan was subbed out and cut the deficit to just four points going into the last quarter.
However, the Ugandans were industrious in the last quarter, scoring on every possession to register the win.
