Uganda Cranes failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Nations Championship for the sixth time after falling 3-1 to Ivory Coast in the final group game of the 2022 edition.

The Cranes went into the game top of the group with four points but couldn’t make it past Ivory Coast.

Sankara Karamoko gave the West Africans an early lead with a diving header in the 12th minute before Vignon Outro doubled the lead in the 27th minute.

Moses Waiswa cut the deficit in the 31st minute converting from his spot after his KCCA teammate Rogers Mato was fouled in the area as the first half ended with the Cranes down.

Micho brought on attacking midfielders Travis Mutyaba and Titus Ssematimba for Frank Ssebuufu who had a header saved early on and Karim Watambala.

Cranes dominated proceedings with Karisa, Mato and Ssematimba coming close from Mutyaba but it was a little too late.

The 78th minute saw the man of the match Karamoko beat the Cranes’ defence with his skill and set up Aubin Kouame Kramo who sealed the victory with a well-taken goal.

Senegal beating DR Congo 3-0 in the other group game meant Uganda finished third in the group and exited the tournament.
