Black Pearls are URU Central Women's XVs champions for a second season running. The Bweyogerere-based side beat record champions Thunderbirds 32-03 in the ultimate game of the season at King's Park on Saturday. The Pearls came into the game trailing the Thunderbirds by three points and only victory would see them defend their title. Charlotte Mudoola struck a penalty in the 3rd minute of the game putting the hosts in an early lead. Ten minutes later, the leading scorer of the women's league Emily Lekuru scored Pearls' first try after good play from the backs and the race for the title was officially on. Thunderbirds had the opportunity to reduce the deficit but Mary Jean Odoi missed a penalty conversion in the 18th minute of the game. Black Pearls who played the game expansively would then run in another try, this time skipper Susan Adong at the end of the move and her side went into the break with a comfortable 13-00 lead. After the break, co-captain Ritah Naddunga who was named the unmatched player of the game scored three beautifully constructed tries. It was a perfect way for Black Pearls to get started having missed the Uganda Cup.
