- Vipers JT 2-1 Mbarara SA
Vipers Junior Team edged Mbarara Soccer Academy after a 2-1 victory in the 2023 FUFA Junior League at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Monday.
Reagan Ssekisambu and Frank Ssekanjako scored for Vipers Junior Team while Uthman Kaaya scored the only goal for Mbarara Soccer Academy.
Vipers JT started off like a house on fire, they did not wait for their opponent to settle in the game as they kept them on the back foot.
In the 18th minute, Vipers JT captain Abubaker Walusimbi nearly gave his side a lead before he witnessed his powerful effort rattle off the frame.
Two minutes past half an hour mark, Vipers finally took the lead through Ssekisambu, it was a well-crafted goal as the latter left two defenders on the flow as he guided the ball into the back of the net.
Farouk Tumwesigye's quick foot gave Mbarara SA's defenders a lot of work to do but his trickery hardly paid off as most of his attempts went wide.
In the second stanza, both sides greatly improved their speed and pace hence giving the crowd a great meal of soccer.
Eleven minutes after recess, Kaaya's low chilly effort went through a forest of legs before it rolled into the net.
Mbarara's players punched the air in joy and excitement as Vipers' troops threw their hands in the air in frustration and dismay.
In the 73rd minute, second-half substitute Ssekanjako restored the Vipers' lead. After continuous attacks on Mbarara's defence, they finally broke down.
On the first day of the FUFA Junior League, Vipers JT and Prosper Soccer Academy claimed victories as Mbarara Soccer Academy and Friends of Soccer were on the losing side.
