- Vihiga Queens 3-1 New Generations
Vihiga Queens registered a 3-1 victory over New Generation in the CAF Women Champions League Zonal Qualifiers match played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.
The Kenyan side fought from a goal down to ensure that they walk away with maximum points in their opening game of the tournament.
In the fourth minute, Alice Muderi delivered a lofted cross into the area searching for Tumaini Nafula but the forward arrived late missing a clear opportunity.
Eleven minutes later, Providence Mukalo witnessed her ball rattle off the frame after a long-range effort as Vihiga continued to push for an opener.
In the 19th minute, Vihiga Queens found themselves on the trailing side after the lack of communication in the back line.
Amina Ahmed made a quick run meeting a loose ball in the area, she rounded off Ruth Aturo before she guided the ball into an empty net to give New Generation the lead.
Winnie Babirye restored parity for Vihiga Queens after curling home the ball in a thrilling fashion with just six minutes to the end of the first half.
Eleven minutes into the second half, Vihiga Queens took the lead through Ruth Khasoka as her ball made a bounce before it went past custodian Faraja Kimlola into the net.
In the 71st minute Anitah Namata came close to extending Vihiga Queens lead but the custodian Kimlola turned up once again palming the ball away in a stellar fashion.
With nine minutes to end the game, Namata was fouled in the box and Martha Emedot converted from the 12-yard mark to tighten Vihiga's position in the driving seat.
