- Guinea 2-1 Uganda
Guinea edged Uganda Cranes in a 2-1 victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco on Friday.
The Cranes had contained the game for 90 minutes but a late error from Salim Magoola changed the fate of the game allowing the hosts to walk away with maximum points.
The match began slowly with both teams taking their time to build up their attacks from the back.
Guinea had two quick corner kicks, but none of them were converted as Uganda’s defence held up well.
However, Guinea’s Aguibou Camara managed to score in the 10th minute after being assisted by Mohamed Bayo.
Seven minutes later, Uganda had an opportunity to score when Guinea’s midfielder, Toure Abdoulaye, almost scored an own goal from Rogers Mato’s delivery.
Fahad Bayo equalized for Uganda with a quick tap-in from close range after Guinea’s goalkeeper, Ibrahim Kone, failed to deal with Halid Lwaliwa’s header at the half-hour mark.
Four minutes before the end of the first half, Guinea made a lovely attack, but Bayo’s touch off Julian Jeanvier’s cut went directly to Salim Magoola’s palms.
At the start of the second half, Paul Put made a double change introducing Yunus Sentamu and Timothy Awanyi for Milton Karisa and Bobosi Byaruhanga.
Travis Mutyaba was fouled at the edge box. The pint-sized forward stepped up for the challenge but his effort went above the frame by inches.
In the 88th minute, Bayo and Mutyaba were called off as Richard Badangwa and Bright Anukani were introduced.
Late in added time, Seydouba Cisse curled in a freekick from the left to beat Uganda's custodian Salim Jamal at the far post.
Uganda will return to action on Tuesday, November 21 as they take on Somalia at the same ground.
