  • Kitara 1-0 Wakiso Giants
  • Express 3-1 UPDF

Kitara continued their impressive run in the Uganda Premier League with a 1-0 victory against Wakiso Giants at Masindi Stadium on Tuesday.

It was a narrow victory in terms of the goals scored but it was massive in terms of what it meant as it sent the Royals to the top of the UPL log.

The victory equally met that Brian Ssenyondo’s troops had completed a double against Wakiso Giants having won 3-1 in the first round.

Since Jasper Aheebwa was suspended from this game, Ssenyondo handed Hamim Semakula his debut as he was tasked to take over the left-back role.

Just like it was against KCCA, Denis Omedi was the scoring hero nodding home into the net to give Kitara the lead in the eighth minute of the game.

Seven minutes later, George Senkaaba received a neat pass from Jude Ssemugabi he turned to shoot on goal however the effort went off the side net.

Kitara suffered a major blow in the 27th as their lanky forward Ssemugabi was taken off the field of play to the ambulance for further medication.

Senkaaba turned provider as he set up Paddy Muhumuza but the experienced midfielder’s strike was inches wide of the frame in the 44th minute.

There was less action in the second half as neither side made changes to try and impact the game but the result remained intact.

The victory sends Kitara to the log summit with 39 points while Wakiso Giants are 12th with 20 points after playing 19 games.

Kitara return to action on Sunday, March 8 as they visit Maroons while Wakiso will be hosting Vipers on Sunday, March 10.
