Uganda Premier League – Results
- NEC 2-1 Maroons
- Express 2-3 Wakiso Giants
- Mbarara City 5-0 Gaddafi
NEC FC registered a 2-1 victory against Maroons in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium Lugoogo on Wednesday evening.
In a game that was played under floodlights, NEC completed a double against the Prison Wardens in the ongoing campaign.
Last year, NEC secured a narrow 1-0 victory against the Maroons thanks to Allan Mugalu’s lonely strike before the 2-1 win in the second leg.
Joseph Dhata and Mugalu were on target for NEC as Isaac Mpagi pulled back one for Maroons in the close-ended game.
A minute to half an hour mark, Cromwell was tripped in the dangerous area before Dhata stepped up to convert from the 12-yard mark.
Ten minutes later, Mugalu doubled the hosts’ lead with an easy tap-in after shielding Jacob Okao to connect with Brian Kayanja’s delivery.
With 10 minutes to conclude the game, Marvin Kavuma nearly extended NEC’s lead with a long powerful from outside the box.
Mpagi grabbed a consolation for the visitors in the 88th minute as NEC’s backline lost concentration at the moment of the game.
The victory takes NEC to 37 points in the third position while Maroons are sixth with six points less.
In the other game played at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara City secured a 5-0 victory against Gaddafi in their best performance of the season.
The huge victory lifts Mbarara City to the ninth position with 27 points while Gaddafi is 13th with only 18 points.
