SC Villa registered a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.

It was a thrilling victory since it sent Villa into the third position on the log with 39 points gathered from 20 games.

In the pre-match conference, Lutalo revealed that they hardly staged a deserving first half but were able to return in the second half with a lot of urge to see the work done.

“I thank the team for the great fight made to see that all points belong to us,” Lutalo stated shortly after the final whistle.

“We had not a so good first half but we came back with the hunger to secure a win which we did. We are now looking towards the games up front. I thank the fans for the turn-up,” he added.

It was a close encounter from the start though SC Villa edged Mbarara City taking away two of the many chances created in front of goal.

Lutalo fired the home side ahead in the 21st minute through a free kick. The agile midfielder’s free-kick was perfectly guided into the back of the net after Diego Missi Semugera was fouled at the edge of the box.

However, Mbarara City levelled matters through Henry Kitegenyi after Villa’s custodian Jean Braddy Wokorach failed to deal with the delivery.

Kiwanuka regained Villa’s lead in the 69th minute after connecting with Joseph Kafumbe’s well-weighed delivery.

Next on the menu, Villa will be on the road to face off with Busoga United on Thursday, April 31, 2023, at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
