Vipers secured a narrow 2-1 victory against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

It was a breathtaking victory for Vipers since they had gone three games without a win in their yard.

Vipers nearly took an early lead but Frank Katongole and Ashraf Mandela’s long strikes were palmed away by Anyama.

Allan Okello gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute with a sublime finish that curled inside the back post after beating UPDF custodian Anyama.

Five minutes later, Katongole put to waste a glorious chance as he failed to tap the ball into an empty net after Okello had earlier done the dirty work.

Erick Kenzo Kambale came close to doubling matters but instead nodded wide Mandela’s well-weighed delivery in front of goal.

Vipers’ custodian Alfred Mudekereza was called to action as he rushed off the line to block Shugai Kaliisa’s low effort in the 43rd minute.

The second stanza started on a slow note, unlike the first half where the hosts were badly looking for an early lead.

Kambale finally doubled the hosts’ lead ten minutes into the second half with a ground-powerful effort that slid below Anyama on the near post.

In the 72nd minute, the visitors pulled back one through Samson Kasozi who forced Christopher Tebandeke’s corner kick into the back of the net.

The victory guided Vipers into the second position on the log with 41 points, three behind leaders Kitara who have played two games more.

UPDF is stuck at the bottom of the log with 16 points in 22 games.
