Kawempe Muslim registered a 2-1 victory against UCU Lady Cardinals in the FUFA Women Super League in Mukono on Saturday morning.
It was a tight duel that kicked off with high intensity as either side searched for an early lead.
Hadijah Nandago opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute with a thrilling finish, converting Allen Nassazi’s set-up.
Before the end of the first stanza, UCU Lady Cardinals were awarded a penalty that was converted by Catherine Nakiridde to restore parity.
Agnes Nabukenya regained the visitors’ lead in the 48th minute with yet a spectacular finish as the Lady Cardinals’ backline looked on.
Midway through the second stanza, Nandago had a glorious chance to extend the visitors’ lead but she failed to guide the ball into the back of the net from close range.
The game witnessed a bad incident as Jolly Kobusigye was rushed to the hospital after a nasty collision with Nakiridde.
The victory opens an eight-point lead (34) for Kawempe ahead of second-placed Kampala who have two games in hand.
The Lady Cardinals are only two points (14) ahead of the red zone putting the ladies in such a trying moment as the campaign hits the final bend.
