KCCA secured a well-deserved 1-0 victory against UPDF in the Uganda Premier League at MTN Omondi Stadium on Tuesday.

Shaban Muhammad scored the only goal as the home side secured maximum points on the day.

Arafat Usama nearly gave the hosts the lead in the second minute after being set up by Shaban but his effort went narrowly wide of the target.

Seven minutes later, Joao Gabriel found the back of the net but the assistant referee flagged the effort offside.

UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama made a great save palming away Usama’s curler midway through the first stanza.

In the 39th minute, Shaban was tripped in the dangerous area and the referee awarded the Kasasiro Boys a penalty.

Shaban stepped up and converted from the spot to score his 16th of the 2023/24 campaign.

Before halftime, Saidi Mayanja’s effort rattled off the frame as the hosts nearly doubled their lead.

In the 64th minute, KCCA introduced Emmanuel Wasswa and Julius Poloto for Ashraf Mugume and Gabriel.

It was an emotional time as the club’s captain Poloto returned from a long-term injury.

The victory sends KCCA into fourth place with 45 points while UPDF are 15th with 21 points from 26 games played.
