  • Vipers 1-0 Express

Milton Karisa was on target as Vipers Sports Club secured a 1-0 victory against Express in the Uganda Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

The game started on a slow pace as none of the two sides threatened but later Vipers pegged Express on the back foot.

Karisa broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a simple tap in from close range off Yunus Sentamu’s delivery.

Fifteen minutes later, Allan Okello came close to doubling the hosts’ lead with a well-taken freekick but Express custodian Yunus Abubaker made a stunning save.

Ten minutes into the second stanza, Karisa wasted a glorious chance to extend the host's lead after guiding the ball above the cram with an empty net at his disposal.

In the 63rd minute, Sentamu was brought down in the area and the centre referee awarded the hosts a penalty.

Karim Watambala stepped up for the occasion and failed to convert from the 12-yard mark.

In the dying minutes of the game, Express threw in the kitchen sink as they tried to restore parity but it was all in vain.

The victory guides Vipers to the log summit with 49 points while Express lie ninth on the table with 32 points in 27 games.
