Uganda Cranes defender Bevis Mugabi has joined Cyprus side Anorthosis Famagusta after playing out his contract with Scottish club Motherwell.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract with The Phoenix which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The towering defender had spent weeks now without a club, after departing Motherwell, where he had spent five seasons, in which he made 125 appearances.

Mugabi’s new team is one of the founding clubs of the Cyprus Football Association in 1934. The club is a part of the Anorthosis Famagusta multi-sport club founded in 1911 in Varosha, Famagusta.

Anorthosis Famagusta is also simply known as Anorthosis in English, or Anorthosi in Greek – interchangeably referred to as ‘The Old Lady’ or ‘The Phoenix’.

They host their games at Antoni’s Papadopoulos Stadium. They compete in the Cypriot First Division and the Cypriot Cup.
