• Uganda Christian University 1-1 St Lawrence University

Uganda Christian University (UCU) and St Lawrence University (SLAU) shared spoils in a one-all draw in a thrilling University Football League (UFL) encounter in Mukono on Tuesday.

Harry Abiti and Ronnie Ziraba scored for UCU and SLAU, respectively, as the 2024-25 UFL campaign got underway.

Forward Abiti Harry broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a powerful freekick to place UCU Cardinals in the driving seat.

Three minutes later, St Lawrence University levelled matters through Ronnie Ziraba, who nodded home Derrick Kato's sweet delivery.

Abiti nearly found the second for the hosts in the 38th minute, but his header went inches wide of the target.

Goalkeeper Dalton Mwidu made a big save in the 42nd minute as he punched away Henry Kayemba's effort inside the area.

Two minutes into the second half, Abiti nearly regained the Cardinals' lead, but his effort sailed wide of the frame.

Despite the fight between the two teams, none could secure maximum points on the day.

UCU and SLAU are in Group C with Kabale University and YMCA Comprehensive Institution.

The tournament continues on Thursday, September 19, as Makerere University hosts Victoria University.
