  • Vipers 2-1 SC Villa
  • Mbale Heroes 0-4 URA

Vipers have secured a 2-1 victory against SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, on Saturday.

Vipers started the league on a low note, gathering four points in three games, but the victory against the reigning champions will create a sigh of relief at Kitende.

Hakim Kiwanuka fired the visitors ahead in the 36th minute with a powerful fine finish inside the area to light up the away stand.

Two minutes later, defender Edward Masembe carelessly gave away the ball before Yunus Sentamu levelled matters with a simple tap-in.

Before the break, the game got a bit physical as either side fought for possession, but it was only Grant Matsiko who got his name in the referee's book.

Rogers Torach gave the hosts the lead, ten minutes into the second half. The defender threw his body on the line to make contact with the ball in the forest of bodies.

Villa nearly responded right away through Francis Onekalit but his touch off Kiwanuka's delivery went straight to the custodian's palms.

Vipers could easily seal the victory through Milton Karisa and Sentamu but they were not lethal enough to kill the chances.

Villa later introduced Tony Atukunda, who gave them more balance and rhythm, but it hardly reflected on the scoresheet.

The victory takes Vipers to seven points in the fourth position while Villa stick to six points in the eighth position after four games.

Shortly after the international break, Vipers will take on Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu on Thursday, October 17.

On the other hand, Villa will host Bright Stars at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday, October 18.
