Express 2-1 Bright Stars
Express SC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bright Stars in their Uganda Premier League encounter on Thursday evening.
The hosts almost took an early lead when Rashid Kawawa cut in from the left, but his effort went narrowly wide.
However, it was the visitors who struck first. Ashraf Mulindi opened the scoring in the 6th minute, calmly slotting in Nelson Senkatuka's delivery past goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa.
Bright Stars had an opportunity to double their lead in the 27th minute when Marvin Youngman set up Senkatuka, but the latter's poor control at the edge of the box squandered the chance.
Express found their equalizer in the 56th minute when Conrad Ssenjogera powered a header into the net from Joseph Zziwa's precise delivery.
The home side continued to press and survived a scare in the 62nd minute when Kalyowa made a crucial save to deny Kato Nemeyimana’s flick.
Express capitalized on their momentum in the 74th minute, with Ssenjogera tapping in his second goal from close range after being set up by Sam Ssenyonjo.
Bright Stars’ hopes of mounting a comeback were dashed when Marvin Youngman was sent off for slapping Ssenjogera in retaliation, leaving his side reduced to 10 men.
The victory lifts Express to fifth place with 22 points, while Bright Stars remain in 14th place with just nine points from 14 games.
