Vipers SC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over UPDF FC in a Uganda Premier League clash at Bombo Barracks Grounds on Friday.

The win extended their lead at the top of the table to four points ahead of second-placed NEC.

Allan Okello fired the visitors into the lead in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after UPDF failed to clear their lines.

Ten minutes later, Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza produced a brilliant save to deny Frank Mugisha’s powerful free-kick from distance.

In the 35th minute, Okello was denied a second goal from close range by UPDF shot-stopper Richard Anyama, who made a crucial save.

Two minutes later, Milton Karisa came close to doubling Vipers’ lead, but his header, off a well-delivered Moses Waiswa free-kick, struck the woodwork.

Seven minutes into the second half, Andrew Kigozi skillfully beat two defenders before setting up Bashir Kabuye, who failed to find the target, sending his effort wide.

With 13 minutes left to play, Vipers were reduced to 10 men after Derrick Ndahiro received a red card.

Despite being a man down, the visitors held firm and even had a late opportunity to seal the win.

However, Abubaker Lawal squandered a golden chance in stoppage time after being set up by Richard Matovu.

The result leaves UPDF in 11th place with 17 points from 14 games.
