Kataka FC has knocked URA FC out of the Uganda Cup after securing a dramatic 5-3 victory in a penalty shootout at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Wednesday evening.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time, forcing the game into penalties.
URA took the lead in the 80th minute when Abraham Tusubira converted a penalty after Ivan Ahimbisibwe was fouled in the box in the 78th minute.
However, Kataka responded just three minutes later, with Abdulrahman Maloba equalizing through a simple header.
In the penalty shootout, Kataka was clinical, with Richard Lempani, Mohammed Biafulo, Emmanuel Kulanga, Stephen Namaisi, and Saul Bugoma all converting their spot-kicks.
For URA, Olimi Nyarwa, Tusubira, and Emmanuel Oketch found the back of the net, but Joshua Lubwama’s effort was saved, sealing Kataka's victory.
The victory grants the Mbale-based side bragging rights and a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Uganda Cup.
