NEC secured a 2-1 victory against Kitara in the Uganda Premier League encounter at Royal Park Butema, on Thursday.

Enock Ssebagala and Gadafi Wahab scored NEC's goals while Living Kabon pulled back one for the hosts.

The game started on a slow note as either side struggled to find the right rhythm in the physical encounter.

In the 28th minute, Paul Mucureezi collided with Kitara right back Maxwell Owachgiu before he was stretchered off the green.

Moments later, James Jarieko was brought on to replace injured Mucureezi as either side looked for an opener.

Two minutes into the second stanza, Fred Amaku nearly gave the hosts the lead but goalkeeper Hannington Sebwalunyo was quick to save the moment.

Enock Ssebagala finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a powerful effort from a distance to silence the home crowd.

Kitara levelled matters in the 68th minute through second-half substitute Kabon Living, who converted from the 12-yard mark.

Gadafi Wahab regained the visitors' lead in the 79th minute with a powerful half volley leaving goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima stuck on his feet.

The victory takes NEC on top of the log with maximum points in two games of the ongoing 2024-25 campaign.
