The 2025 EALASCA Games got underway in an opening ceremony held at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Tuesday evening.

The ceremony was graced by the KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki alongside the Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs Hajjati Minsa Kabanda. 

"I warmly welcome you all to the great city of Kampala of these EALASCA Games that are meant to foster unity, friendship and development of our cities," Hajjati Kabanda noted.

In the same breath, Buzeki revealed that the event offers a great stage to foster cooperation and regional cooperation: "This is not a mere sporting event, but a symbol of our shaped aspirations as East Africa. The games present a unique stage for fostering regional cooperation."

Kenya started on a positive note, winning the tug-of-war competition 2-0 in either gender, setting the tone for the day's action.

In the official opening football encounter, Kenya's CASA completed a 3-1 great comeback victory against KCCA.

Benon Ssebunoni gave the hosts an early lead but CASA responded through Steven Mwangi (brace) and Oben Mwale.

Action will continue today at the Hamz Stadium with lost of action including volleyball, basketball, netball as well as a few indoor games.
