Uganda Women’s national team, She Cranes registered a 79-37 easy-earned victory against Singapore in the 2023 Netball World Cup at the Cape Town International Conventional Centre in Cape Town on Friday.
It was a great start for the She Cranes amidst having a lot of new faces on the world’s grand stage.
It was a shock to the Netball enthusiasts as She Cranes Fred Mugerwa's coach read Shadia Nassanga and Haniisha Muhammed ahead of Irene Eyaru and Mary Nuba Cholhok.
Goal-shooter Muhameed paid the coach’s trust with an 86% conversion rate after she scored 31 goals out of 35 attempts.
Goal-attacker Shadiah Nassanga added 11 goals out of 14 attempts to make a good harvest of the upfront duo.
The team’s captains Eyalu and Nuba came off the bench to post seven and 17 goals respectively.
She Cranes started off well leading the first frame 22-09. At the halftime whistle, Uganda was in a comfortable lead posting 42-18 to go into the long break.
After recess, Uganda scored 20 and 17 in the third and fourth quarter while Singapore scored 11 and eight on the other hand.
Next on the menu, Uganda will play world champions New Zealand on Saturday. In the earlier games, New Zealand beat Trinidad and Tobago 76-27.
