Uganda Premier League | Friday Result
- Express FC 1-2 SC Villa
SC Villa edged Express 2-1 in the Uganda Premier League at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.
The game kickoff was delayed for over 15 minutes due to a lack of enough security and that led to the game to be played for 40 minutes in each half.
Ivan Bogere had a chance to give Villa the lead in the eighth minute but his solo run was put to waste after guiding the ball narrowly wide.
Six minutes later, Alpha Ssali gave Express the lead after a deflected effort thus lighting up the stadium.
Isaac Waigona set up the youngster who pulled off a powerful effort that dashed off defender Arnold Odong before beating goalkeeper Norman Angfidru.
Ronald Ssekiganda nearly levelled matters but goalkeeper Abdul Kimera pulled off a stunning save after cooling the long-range effort.
Patrick Jonah Kakande restored parity after completing a well-built attack. Umar Lutalo and Kakande connected well to go through a forest of bodies.
Two minutes after the break, Bogere’s powerful header off Gavin Kizito delivery went narrowly wide putting to waste Villa’s chance to take the lead.
In the 50th minute, Bogere controlled the ball in the box but his wife effort skied way above the frame.
Abel Muwanguzi fouled Ssekiganda in the dangerous area and referee Mashood Ssali pointed at the penalty spot.
Lutalo stepped up on the occasion and calmly converted from the spot to give the visitors have a well-deserved lead on the 62 minutes.
The victory takes Villa to the sixth position with 16 points while Express is seventh with three points less after playing 10 points.
Villa returns to action on Wednesday, December 13 against Gaddafi while Express will visit Kitara at Masindi Stadium a day later.
