CECAFA Kagame Cup defending champions KCCA FC started the 2021 campaign on the wrong foot as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Azam FC at Azam Sports Complex, Chamazi on Monday night.
Two second-half goals by Peter Kasunda sent Azam top of Group B, leaving KCCA reeling at the bottom after the opening round of games.
KCCA had a good first half with Denis Iguma and Julius Poloto denied by the woodwork.
Brian Aheebwa (in the first half) and Sam Ssenyonjo as well as Musa Ramathan had half-chances for the Lugogo-based side.
KCCA FC faces KMKM (Zanzibar) on Thursday and Messager Ngozi (Burundi) on Saturday in the two games they can’t afford to lose if they are to advance from Group B.
Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes duo goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya and defender Nicholas Wadada were not part of the Azam FC squad for the match.
