Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) runner Ali Chebures has switched focus to the Commonwealth Games after winning the 2022 Source of the Nile Marathon. Chebures clocked 1:02:00 to top the field in the 21km race held in the eastern city of Jinja. Police’s Abel Chebet (1:02:04) and another UWA runner Geofrey Kusuro (1:02:06) were second and third respectively. The 29-year-old, also a winner National Cross Country title in Tororo, says his focus is now on qualifying for the Commonwealth Games 2022. "I am happy that God has given me yet this chance again to add this race and I am humbled to be the winner. Now my focus turns to Commonwealth Games qualification since my target is to win a gold medal for Uganda in Birmingham come July," he said after victory in Jinja. The Commonwealth Games will be held from 28th July to 8th August 2022 in Birmingham, England. The next event on the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) calendar is the first Track & Field Trials on Saturday, 5th March at Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
